i had a similiar situation - where my FH was invited '& guest' - and i RAISED HELL!!it was also a cousins party that i was invited to - and i called up my Aunt, my cousin, and anyone else i could flip out on. everyone was all apologetic about it - but i guarantee you that will NEVER happen again...
