I try to use my amex for everything i can since i get points. A lot of places dont take it though. So far i have used it for my wedding gown, invites and favors. I pay if off right away though

we're in the same boat... we were all ready to pay cash for everything and had a whole savings plan set up... when we decided to now buy a house... we should be closing in a few weeks so those mortgage payments will be starting soon... so yes.. we will definitely have to place stuff on the credit card now... we plan to pay as much as we can w/ cash but we will have to charge it & then use our gifts to pay off the debt after the wedding.... you're not alone!

this actually reminds me, what vendors will let you charge? i mean i think every vendor makes you have a cash deposit, but can you charge the rest? we're probably gonna be charging most of the wedding only because we're paying for it ourselves mostly

Yup, but just for the miles/hotel points. Paying it off each month...

Same here. I was really hoping that our hall would take CC payments too.

I think this is what we are going to do too. We have the cash, but I like the idea of putting it on a CC for the security, plus you get points

Then it will all get paid off right away.

i feel like you do what You need to do and are comfortable doing to make that day special. Dont let guilt overshadow an very important day! do what you can with funds readibly available and then adjust your credit....it is bound to happen, in my opinion!

we'll probably have to put the honeymoon on a CC then pay if off with some of the gifts. other than that im not using it!

If you can get a 0% apr, then that's great....however I have friends that are STILL paying their wedding off & they were married 6 years ago!!! Just be careful, & be smart...and DEFINETLY look into 0% apr, even if it means transfering the balances onto one card. Be & my FH booked everything with cash deposits, and now are just banking all our money & hopefully have enough saved!! I definetly understand ur situation because last minute me father decided not to give us a dime towards wedding expenses, however you dont want debt to be a burden the first year of your marraige! Just be smart about it! Good Luck!

guilty! we put the little things on credit card (like the ring bearer pillow, card box, etc.) and the florist was paid entirely with a credit card. but every thing else was paid with cash.

we are paying alot on credit card...Our hall was paid in cash ....and some of the vendors are included with that....but i want to make sure we have enough cash for tipping the day of...(gratuity is a killer) I'd rather pay the credit cards off after the wedding than not have enough cash for the day of....I have a CC with 0% apr until July 2007.

There are a few things I put on my CC - but it is stuff I would have put on my CC whether or not we were getting married - like whenever I go to Michael's or AC Moore for DIY supplies. As for 'genuine' wedding expenses - I think I charged the BP gifts and then paid the bill in full when it arrived - but that is it.

Once we leave for the HM I plan on using the CC almost exclusively because we will be overseas.

were paying everything in cash, and then using cc for miles for our honeymoon on non-related wedding stuff!

I just applied for a Chase credit card. It is 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers until Oct 2007. Hopefully we won't need it, but good to have just in case.
