Re: Is it typical for the BMs

My mom and FMIL really wanted to throw me a shower, so they are with the help of my BMs. My grandma is also throwing me a shower.

I think that if the moms want to do it, let them.

Re: Is it typical for the BMs

My mom paid for mine and I don't think the bridal party was asked to split any of the expences. I had two girls over 23 and two girls around 20 years of age. My mom did ask a few of the girls for small favors and they didn't even do that.

My mom said she would pick up the expence of the bridal shower and my BM would pay for my bachelorette......only one of my BM even showed.

Re: Is it typical for the BMs

I've only been in one bridal party, and we didn't chip in toward the shower-- we just gave a nice gift and helped out (running the games, keeping track of who gave what, bringing the gifts to the car, etc.).

For my shower, my mother paid for the entire thing. The BMs volunteered to take care of favors and games, and the result was a huge amount of drama throughout the planning process, culminating on the afternoon of the shower with one of my MOH's handing my mother a receipt for what she spent on the favors and asking to be reimbursed.

As far as I'm concerned, the whole traditional notion of the BMs throwing the shower is outdated. I think that the BMs should help in some way (making things, stuffing envelopes, etc.), but they shouldn't be responsible to foot the bill for what usually amounts to a family gathering with a big chunk of the guest list generated by the MOB and FMIL.

If it's a LI style shower at a restaurant, I agree with you. Those get awfully pricey. But my shower was at my parents' house in CT, with only the people *I* wanted there.

I still don't understand why the MOG gets to have any say in these things though - this is a party for the Bride thrown by her family and friends.

Re: Is it typical for the BMs

my mom and dad paid entirely for mine and my BM's all just chipped in to get us a dining table/set. i think it's customary for the BM's to help with the planning, but I dont think they have to pay for it.
