jewish bride...blusher?

I may borrow a veil (I am Jewish), but the blusher was lost by the catering hall of the other bride. Do I need to wear a blusher to get married by a rabbi? Is it easy to just get a blusher added to the veil?

Re: jewish bride...blusher?

Hi Twein.

There is the Veil ceremony (I cant remember what it is called) but you DONT have to do it.

I am reform and I was not told by the Rabbi I *need* a blusher. I have one but was not told I *need* one.

Ask your rabbi who is doing the ceremony. They will be able to give you the absolute answer.

Hope this helps.

Re: jewish bride...blusher?

Its called a Bedeken...where your groom puts the veil over your face just before the ceremony so that he knows who he is marrying (hearkens back to Jacob getting Leah instead of Rachel because he couldn't see through the veil).

Usually happens right after the Ketubah signing I think...I am Reform and we will be doing this.

Re: jewish bride...blusher?

My rabbi was reform and he said it was my choice if I wanted to do it or not. I chose not too bc I didn't want it in my face as I walked down the aisle - personal preference.

I had to do it durring my ceremony. I wore the veil for most of the time and it gets sooooo hot under there!!! And yes it was a requirement for us. But he also asked that I wear a jacket or something to cover my arms and I didn't

Thats very interesting seeing you didnt get married in a shul. Usually you cover your shoulders in shul, not at a hall.

Very interesting!

Re: jewish bride...blusher?

It depends on your rabbi, ask him/her. They have different requirements. My rabbi required the blusher for a very limited time, but I had to be at least able to cover my eyes.

I am not 100% if you need one BUT if it comes up that you DO NEED a blusher, they make detachable blushers that is just velcro and you can buy one of those possibly for cheap. That's what I got.
