Jewish Brides: Inviting your Rabbi to your wedding?

We found our rabbi on the internet - he is AMAZING and we have grown close with him - but he does not know our families and he is not the rabbi of our synagogue....he also knows how BIG this wedding has got and how STRESSED we both are over the size of our guest list. Knowing that, do you think we should invite him? Do you think he would come?

If you have grown close with him, then why not?
Even if its just out of repect. I have heard this done, and most of the time, they do not come, but they appreciate the thought.

We invited him but he did not attend. It was a courtesy.

i think you're 'supposed' to invite the Rabbi.. some weird unwritten code probably. we didn't invite ours.. he told us that he would be leaving right after the ceremony the first time we met with him.

Re: Jewish Brides: Inviting your Rabbi to your wedding?

When you say invite...do yo mean send him an invite? We got an invitation made for ours but we are not sending it to him we are going to hand it to him. It is awkard becase I dont want him to feel like he has to give a gift. The gift is that he is marrying us. He has been my FH's rabbi since he was little. DO you think we should mail it?
Thanks!

Re: Jewish Brides: Inviting your Rabbi to your wedding?

it's probably more personal to hand it to him - b/c as you hand it over you could say, 'we'd love you there - your presense is gift enough...'

Re: Jewish Brides: Inviting your Rabbi to your wedding?

My FH asked the Rabbi straight out if

A. we should invite him and
B. if we need to at least feed him as we are the vendors.

Rabbi said he appreciates the thought but he will just do the ceremony, then have a drink of wine with us at cocktail hour. We may still send an invite.
