Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
try the Riviera too. It's in Massapequa and it is beautiful. It was one of our top two choices but we went with the other one because FH liked the cocktail room better there.

I would check North Ritz Club, Fox Hollow or Crest Hollow are also not far. There is a list of halls and there location if you search under Vendors.
Good luck and welcome
The Woodlands is also near there as well and very nice.
There are a large number of halls on Long Island that you can find one that will give you exactly what you want.

Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
I have been to weddings at both Carlyle and Milleridge. They were both really nice.I thought the Carlyle's cocktail hour was fantastic.
I chose the Milleridge Cottage because they gave me everything I wanted:
One wedding at a time
Space for outdoor cocktail hour
Good reputation
Willing to negotiate/Positive experience with Banquet Manager
Great price
You can't go wrong with either place.
Good luck!

Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
IMHO, It really depends on how you feel. If you look at it like I do--you only get married once and it's a big deal, you save up the money and make it work b/c it's so worth it, then you'll go with the place that you really feel a passion for regardless of the price... within reason, of course. You might have to try and budget yourself elsewhere but the place is everything and that is what you and your FH-and your guests- will always remember.
I'm not sure how flexible places can be with food selection but I have a girlfriend at work that just got married at the Carlyle last month and she said it was hands down the best decision she ever made. She said the service quality that they give you was well worth the money. She said her guests LOVED the food even though, like you, she wasn't thrilled with the type of food it was. To her surprise, she said her guests loved it because it was different than the typical wedding food and I agree wth the guests.... Carlyle's food is unique--I looked there, reminded me of Tavern on the Green--how great is that?! lol
Carlyle was on my list of top three places I loved. I went with FF because it was closer to my house and most of our guests. But honestly, it is worlds above the other places that you mentioned, IMO, no offense to other brides--those places are very nice but you can't compare just like with the place I'm getting married--you can't compare the Waldorf to Flowerfield can you? It's like that. IMO, they are just on two different levels.
I would go with your heart, Carlyle is breath-taking and like I said before--it's just once, you might as well do what makes you feel great.
I agonized over the cost of FF, just like you, but when I walked into FF it knocked me off my feet and I got choked up and had goosebumps... no other place did that to me and you can't put a price on that feeling.
Good luck sweetie... I'm sure everything will work out and be perfect!! Think of it this way... since you are a 2007 bride you have a while to save up!!
BTW... CONGRATS!!!!

Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
Ok, I am definitely biased, but I love the Carlyle. I never did get to see the Milleridge Cottage, but I wish that I did. Yes the Carlyle is ALOT of $$$ and definitely worth it IMO. Nonetheless, make sure that you will be comfortable spending that much $. We often talk about how much we'd save if we had it at a less expensive place, etc. But I felt that I'd rather have a few less people that we don't really know and have it at the place of my dreams. However, it ends up that we have well over 200

Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
I went to see Milleridge Inn and Riviera. Milleridge is a beautiful location, however if you are having not much more than 150 pp, my opinion is that it looked too spacey. That being said, we didn't pick Milleridge but we really liked it otherwise. If you're in Massapequa, how about Riviera? It's quite the hidden jem

Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
Congrats! My only advice (I don't know much about either hall) is to look at as many places as possible and also do not allow yourself to be rushed by pushy banquet managers! We didn't look at many places and although our wedding was more than I could have expected, I most definitely wish I'd seen other things, even if only to compare.

Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
I looked at Thatched Cottage and wasn't impressed by the look of it... I went last june to book for a June 07 wedding... the gardens werent full and the place itself wasnt anything special - and yet still pricey... Keep looking!!! There are a ton of great places...

Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
Congrats! Im getting married at Carlyle... I know they are pricey but they really are great.. I have eaten there about 3 times since booking and the food is amazing, I have had 2 cousins go to weddings there and they have had nothing but nice things to say about it! I would be happy with 135 pp. compared to what Im paying- But It doesnt sound like you are 100 % thrilled with either one so IMHO I would probably keep looking. I know your worried about the date and thats understandable June is a popular month... But you do have over 1 year.

Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
congrats to you!!!seems you are not 100% ecstatic about either place. i'd keep looking if i were you. when you find the right hall--you just KNOW without a doubt. that's how it was for FH and i--we walked into ours and had visited others--and without hearing anything else about the place, i stepped inside and we both turned to each other and were like 'This is it...this is the place'
if you don't LOVE your place now, you will NOT love it on your big day! don't get too caught up in the excitement of the engagement and jump too soon on a place! you've got time

Keep looking. Don't narrow your choices to two halls. I went to about a little over 15 places before deciding on my place. Good luck!

Re: just engaged and need opinions on two halls
Congrats!! Enjoy being engaged and don't rush to book a hall before you had a chance to think about everything!!I got engaged in Aug 2005 and had no problem getting a July date for 2006.
Good luck negotiating!! JMO 135 for Sunday day sounds high. Because when you think tax and service charge it is really 162
Also check out the Riviera. I will admit, they were booked solid when I called them, they book up fast.
Go to the Venetian Yacht Club in babylon (the old John Anthony's) befoer they finish the rennovations perhaps you can still get a good price before they increase them.
