I've always wanted to do that! Hit up a whole lotta countries in one shot :) When it comes to the details and if you will in fact be in Portugal, fm me, I might be able to help you with suggestions

I have no idea how to even go about planning something like this....

Has anyone out there done something like this before? Did you plan out hotels ahead of time?

I haven't planned something like it -- but, I'd definitely plan hotels ahead of time, just to be on the safe side.

Also, if you don't mind, I'd like for you to take the camera, in Paris, while I sing the National Anthem.

That works for me. I was planning on working in a brothel in Paris while we're there. You know...make some extra cash for the rest of the trip. So I'll let you have the day off in Paris.

First I must say your FIL's ROCK!!!!!!!

That is the best gift anyone could ever give you!!!!

I did it after college and it seriously was the best experience ever and probably one of the best months of my life.

I did it a while ago and things have definatley changed (I went before 9/11 and our dollar was so strong that we stayed in nice hotels that were cheaper then the hostils.

Anyway my first suggestion is go get a Lonely Planet Book or start researching where you want to go. Once you ahve your 'must have places' take it from there. See what sites are open on what days (we did not do this and therefore missed a few important things) and then flights. We flew into amsterdam -- took the rail from country to country and then when back to Amsterdam and fly home.

Bonnie that is awesome. Depending on where you have/haven't been I would start in London or Paris, then take the chunnel to the other place. Then I might head to Belgium, Amsterdam and over to germany...

Alternatively you could do the mediteranean and go from Paris, south to Nice or Cannes, and work your way to Italy, Greece, Croatia, etc...

That is soooo exciting!

I don't think I'd make it out of Amsterdam alive.

I think it might be best to concentrate on 2 or 3 places....but then again I want to see so much!!!
