Kleinfeld's

Hi! Does anyone have any information of these rumors that Kleinfelds is going bankrupt? Do I need a more than 5 months to get a dress ordered from them? Thanks!

The honor of your presence is requested at the wedding of me, daughter of Mr and Mrs XXX to him, son of Mrs. XXX.

This skirts around the issue of who is doing the inviting. But we are going to have my parents as the return address so it's implied that way. I just have been procrastinating telling my parents that this is the way we are going to do it.

Kleinfeld's

My girlfriend ordered her gown from Kleinfelds back in 1997 - back then there were rumors of bankrupcy.

For whatever its worth to you - I've heard nothing but bad experiences from friends who have bought their dresses there. One friend spent over $5000 on a Diamond Collection Gown. Ordered it 5 months before her wedding. Called for weeks on end for a status update and got the run around - her dress arrived 2 WEEKS BEFORE HER WEDDING DATE.

They did alter it in time - but such a hassle! She had to travel 3 times from Stony Brook to their store within the last 2 weeks before the event.

Kleinfeld's

I got my dress there in 1992, I ordered it in Sept for my New Years wedding. It came in within 2 months. There were no alterations to be made so I thought I would just take it with me at the first fitting. They said they had to do the bustle so I would have to come back again, I was living in Sag Harbor. If you could hear me yell at this poor alterations woman. To make a long story short, I was driving my dress home with bustle done in 1 hour. I am not rude or difficult something just came over me and I was determined not to leave without my dress that day. Anyway, overall I had a very good experience with Kleinfelds. I learned from that you have to listen very closely and ask alot of questions. My sister just placed an order for her dress at Kleinfeld, I went with her and she got the very same salesperson (Judith) that I had. I found the service very professional and one can easily be intimidated by there aggressive atmosphere. The owner walked around giving his card asking if you were waiting long, if we are happy with service. Meanwhile as we are waiting there is a self serve coffee/tea bar and they have a fashion show of all the latest gowns while you are waiting for your name to be called. It was such a fun experience compared to the many bridal gown shopping trips that I have been on in the last 10 years.

I know 3 other people who ordered their gowns at Kleinfeld and all had very decent experiences. I tell everyone I know to go to Kleinfeld!

Good Luck!

Kleinfeld's

Kleinfeld's has been around the longest, but that doesnt mean much! The place reminds me of a factory that just processes brides by the dozen. I have also heard the rumors about the bankruptcy. They have had a few different owners over the past few years. The place used to be the best, but now it seems to be just riding out its famous name. I have heard mixed things and I presonally did not like the way I was treated. I saw "the" dress there and I ordered it at Bridal Reflections. Good Luck!

I didn't buy my dress there, but I though they were wonderful, the service was outstanding. I don't know anything about bankrupcy, but I do know that they have new owners. As for wedding factory feel, I didn't think so. There are much worse places.

It's such a balancing act, trying to save money while putting on a fabulous party and not stressing out completely. The last thing we should be stressing over is how much to tip people whose services we haven't seen/used yet. What's wrong with sending the tips a few days after your affair, when you can judge how much you think each vendor deserved? That's how companies give out bonuses, you don't get a bonus the first day of work, you get it after you've been there a while and they can evaluate you performance. Why should this be any different?

Karen,

I thought so too! Travelling from Sag Harbor, to look for a dress, I had to go where I knew I would have the best selection. And they had just about any dress you could choose out of a wedding magazine. Their prices are probably more than your average Bridal Salon, to me it was worth it to walk in and order a dress within 1 hour and be absolutely in love with it. Every person I know who has purchased there had the same experience I had. It is a very efficient operation there!

well, don't know if this helps or hurts..but I will be dropping in unannounced!

I'm so glad to hear you liked it there.I got my dress at Michelle Roth but I've been recommending Kleinfeld's for months. They really do have an amazing selection and they're one of the few places that carry European designers. Some of the dresses I saw at Kleinfelds I haven't seen anywhere else, not even bridal magazines.

Jamelle, which vendors did you use? I'm really interested to hear how your flowers, dj and photographer worked out.

I got my dress at Michelle Roth also. What does yours look like? I thought they were wonderful and I have recommended them to all the brides-to-be I know.

I have been coming here since I was told the Web site began to exist. Enough said...and I have been through the most miserable time with the planning of my own wedding. I went through the months of researching catering halls. Picked one that would handle a small affair. Thought I was happy with them, booked a photographer, who I still adore, although I wont get to use him. Got a DJ and a florist. The whole nine yards.

I had to cancel my plans and was very upset. I came here to tell everyone and you all were great. Until I had real problems and actually came to the boards to tell others the names of the establishments that were un professional. Now I am far from a dumby, and have been through a wedding and a marrage in my past, so I have done all this already. When my caterer tryed to keep 3x the legal amount that they were entitled to keep I was basically told that I was the one who was wrong! I know the laws, I read the contracts, yet I was Bashed! Same thing with the florist, who I never got more then an estimate from, nobody signed anything, yet now she wants money from me when nothing was ever in writing other then exactly just that....an estimate!
