thanks
i just feel:

1. hurt and annoyed that she would be so nasty in her comments to me

2. people deserve to hear it from me; not through the grapevine

I agree. So why not do this.....since there is a month or so left of school, let your closest friends there know and then let them share the information if they choose to. If not, at least you know you covered your closest friends. HTH

Re: Ladies - I need opinions /advice - Teachers especially

My AP has been preggo twice since I've been working there and it's always been a word of mouth thing.. but personally I wish she would have announched it b/c it's awkward.. you don't want to bring it up to her.. since she hasn't actually mentioned it.

Re: Ladies - I need opinions /advice - Teachers especially

Maybe she felt like it would be awkward to have a formal announcment, but I don't see the big deal. You are friendly w/ most of them . Its just a way to tell a big group all at once.

Re: Ladies - I need opinions /advice - Teachers especially

First of all congratulations !!

personally i rather hear it from you & not word of mouth. recently, a friend of work was pregnant & heard it from word of mouth & i was a little hurt she didn't tell me herself.

do what you think is right. i am sure it will be the right decision !

Re: Ladies - I need opinions /advice - Teachers especially

I think a lot depends on your relationship with your staff. My admins are pretty informal with us, and it would be completely fine if one of them announced a pregnancy at a staff meeting. Do whatever you think is right.

Re: Ladies - I need opinions /advice - Teachers especially

Im not teaching right now.. But as a teacher I wouldn't think its inappropriate for someone to share news at a meeting, even if you are the AP. I would be so happy for you! As I am

You're not wrong, I wouldn't raise any eyebrows if my AP were to do that...this might be far-fetched but perhaps she is resentful? I know pregnancy can be a sensitive issue for many people, maybe that's why she reacted that way

thanks, that is what my mom said

i just think that i owe it to people to tell them personally, and i think its rude to 'let them hear it through the grapevine' JMO

I'm not in the teaching field, but I agree with all of this. I don't see why it would be inapropriate, especially since you are an AP. I would think it would be better coming from you directly...I would feel more weird about it getting around through the grapevine. Sounds like a flaky response from your friend. Good luck!

Re: Ladies - I need opinions /advice - Teachers especially

I am not a teacher and I do not work in a school, but I think in any professional environment it is better to tell people yourself.

yes there is always speculation and rumors, but I think people appreciate it when a personal announcement is made and not just spread around -- no matter what the situation.

And why not a meeting where everyone will be? I would do at the end of the meeting as a side note not in the beginning -- this way people stay focused on the meeting and get the treat at the end!

Re: Ladies - I need opinions /advice - Teachers especially

As a teacher..... I think that she was out of line AND that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with you announcing the great news. And as someone above me pointed out- I think starting a family is something the educational field understands, encourages, and respects. There is no reason that you can not announce this amazing news!

By the way- CONGRATS!!!!

Re: Ladies - I need opinions /advice - Teachers especially

It'd be best to hear it from you, I'd think. Word of mouth makes it look like you're hiding something... its a joyous announcement, and I'm sure everyone would rather hear it from you!

Re: Ladies - I need opinions /advice - Teachers especially

I think it would be awesome for you to announce it during a grade conference. That's how I would want to find out if one of my APs was preggo!!!
