Re: Looking for apartments?
I understand you may have seen these before- I didn't realize how hard this is.
Here's one that I thought was reasonable in Massapequa:http://www.apartments.com/partner/summarybz.aspx?property=200406.4&srank=34&who=newsday&p=newsday&rgn2=78&state=ny&partner=newsday&iscustom=y&area3=y&subarea1=y&subarea2=y&subarea3=y&rent_minimum=0&rent_maximum=99999&am28=0&pg=4&page=summarybz&prvpg=7&srt1=0.73&srt2=0.73&srt3=0.73

Here you go- I did a search on Nassau County on newsday.com. Here it is:
http://www.apartments.com/partner/Results.aspx?page=results&who=newsday&p=newsday&rgn2=78&state=ny&partner=newsday&iscustom=y&area3=y&subarea1=y&subarea2=y&subarea3=y&prvpg=5&Rent_Minimum=0&Rent_Maximum=99999&am28=0
ive used that before... alot dont take down the listing after its been renting which is annoying... and i also found a woman on there that was snotty as hell to me when i said my fiance and i wanna look at the apt... she was like NOOOO THIS IS FOR 1 PERSONNNNNN.... meanwhile it didnt say that at all in the listing... im suppossed to read her mind i guess...![]()
Alot of ads dont say 1 person or 2 allowed. I just have to call and find out.
I love when they say sure a couple is fine and the apt is the size of a shoebox

people are ridiculous and i really hate when they make it sound one way and then you go see it and looks nothing like the pics or how they described. Our real estate agent wanted to show us this 1 apartment, he talked so much about it and we were so excited about it, 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, whole apt newly renovated, terrace and all that.
We get to the place and within 2 mins i hated it. The bedrooms were tiny, you could basically fit a bed and thats it, they said it fits a king size
yeah the king size would take up the whole room and no room for anything else. The bathrooms took up most of the space from the bedrooms. The kitchen was really small and was open and went from the living room which was also VERY small. There was a lady there with her son looking at it at the same time as us, she also had a daughter bc she talked about if her daughter would like it. The funny thing is this apartment cost more than any other apartment we had seen, it was ridiculous what they were charging but our real estate agent convinced us to see it, all the apartments we saw in the same area were alot bigger, nicer and less money. As soon as we left our real estate agent called us bc he said we would have to put in an offer right away bc that lady really wants it, i was like good i hated it, she can have it.Its a frustrating process
you walk into some of these apartments and wonder what people are thinking, the most messed up apartments they ask for more money than others. One apartment i walked into i couldnt even stay in there, the people knew we were coming and went out just so we can see it. The apartment was the dirtiest, messiest apt ive ever seen anyone live in. There were clothes EVERYWHERE, on the couch, all over the floor, infact the moment you walked into the hallway there was a trail of clothes, garbage on the floor, make up and just cr*p on the bed, couches, floor, kitchen. You seriously couldnt even step anywhere bc there were stuff all over the floor. Its disgusting that people even live like this and then on top of that, thats how they show the apartment

Re: Looking for apartments?
good luck finding a place! the search is never easy! we just found our place and the search was draining. I thought for sure we'd never find something good. If it wasn't too small, it was too dirty, or in a bad neighborhood, or in front of an active train
or infested with some creepy crawly or another. but we finally found our PERFECT place. you WILL find something!

This made me laugh bc its so funny how redic people can be... I would like to say god luck to anyone that hasnt started this process yet... you will need it... as for me and fh, this move will be the first place for the 2 of us and i cannot even tell you how many fights we've had about this already... so much so that we began to question 'if we're having this much trouble now, what the hell are we going to do when it comes time to buy something...'

dont let it effect the two of you. When you do find a place that is perfect it will be perfect for the two of you, and none of the previous fights will matter.

Re: Looking for apartments?
When FH and I were looking for a new place, i got so frustrated with craigslist. things were either crappy, too good to be true, or just scams.we had to end up going through a real estate agent even tho i didnt want to, bcuz i hated the fact of having to pay them one month's rent commission. We ended up negotiating the commission in half after we found an apartment we loved.

Re: Looking for apartments?
Here is my craiglist story. I saw a broker adverstiment for building that I honestly did not know exist in the area i am from. The building was literaly 10 blocks from where I was living. When I entered the building I looked for the super information I memorized it and called the next day and went directly through the management office it saved me the ridiculous amt of money the realtor wanted to charge me. Which was 10% of the annual rent. I saved my self 1.4K and I got my apartment. So my craiglist experience was great.Mazz are you open to all areas I live in a nice area in queens that close to everything or are set on Long Island?

we're sticking with LI for the simple fact that queens doesnt have cablevision and thats FH's employee perk .. otherwise, they give him like 30 bucks towards another cable service which is nothing
