Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT

I saw the movie too. One thing to add regarding:

'Sam finds Frodo 'dead' and realizes that he has to continue Frodo's journey in his honor (this is more from the book than the movie)

Frodo is found by some Orcs on patrol and they know that Sauron wants him...so they take his stuff...but they do not get the ring'

Sam thinks he dead but the spider got him with her poison that doesnt kill you but paralyzes you so Sam thinks he is dead and seams dead. But the Orcs know that Frodo was zaped and wrapped by the spider to eat later they say the spider likes the flesh warm and soft not hard. So they take Frodo to the Sauron. They strip him of his things but you dont find out that Sam has the ring until he shows up to kick some butt.

I have the books but havent gotten to read them yet.
I was a bit disappointed in the end too. But overall it was an awesome trilogy.

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT

My FH is obsessed with knowing what happened to the 'crystal ball' that Pippin (sp?) shouldn't have looked into.
Gandolf took it, then what?

Thanks!

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT

The crystal ball is a Palantir.

It is a communication device of the Dark Lord Sauron. Kinda like a phone - looking into it enables you to communicate with him. That's why he was talking to Pippin. It's pretty much a dropped point after Gandalf takes it from Pippin and they ride to Gondor.

The books are REALLY good. You should read them. There's so much more depth to them.

I'm hoping in the Extended Edition that they show Aragorn looking in the Palantir and showing Sauron the Shards of Narsil reforged....I thought that was pretty powerful in the book

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT

A have a question....I don't quite remember in the earlier ones what happened to the dark lord/wizard (is that one Sauron?). I remember seeing him in 'person' form but in the third one all I saw was the eye-thing. Would someone mind filling me in?

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT

it is my understanding that Sauron is only an essence...not a physical being...but in the first battle, he is in armor to take a physical form...

he has taken physical form to pursuade the elves to make the lesser rings and to teach him to make the one ring of power...

I believe that he comes from the same group that Gandalf and Sarumon come from. One before all of them corrupted the group and made the helpers become his servants (one was Sauron) - but maybe someone who knows a bit more of the Samarillion and Unfinished Tales could clear that up

Encyclopedia of Arda

This is a really great site if you want to know about specific characters and places in LOTR.

Re: LORD OF THE RINGS HELP? DONT READ IT IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT

You guys are right about Aragorn looking into the Palantir - I had forgotten that part.

Man this LOTR discussion is soooo good for my inner geek.

ETA: Yabbobay, Sauron was a follower of a previous dark lord who is kind of a 'Fallen Angel' character that yes, is of the same group as Gandalf and Saruman. Silmarillion stuff. I haven't read it, but FH is working on that right now.

Also: GROOVYPEG! Adam and I owe you guys drinks - Don't let us cheap out on you.
