Macys Bridal?

Does any one have experience with Macys Bridal salon at Smith Haven Mall (specifically the fittings part)? I originally ordered my dress out at Walt Whitman but that store closed and I transferred my order to Smith Haven. The people there have NOT been friendly at all. My gown, which I ordered in Aug has been in since Oct (so much for ordering at least 6 mos early!) but I haven't gone for fitting yet, and bridesmaids dresses haven't come in. They are due in mid Feb for my March 31 wedding. When I went to pick up my headpiece (bun wrap with attached veil) I was rudely told by a sales person they probably could not do the alterations the manager at the Smith Haven store told me could be done, and I was stuck with the head piece regardless. Other times I have been in or called I always seem to get attitude from the staff…which wasn't the case at Walt Whitman at all.

I have since brought my headpiece to some else for changes (which are no problem)…but I am just wondering what to expect when I go for fittings for me and my bridesmaids. Does anyone have other good/bad experiences dealing with them?

Does anyone know where I can order a specific style CACHET (brand) dresses from?

although i did not order my dress from macy's bridal, i believe that their salons are really Flowerama stores. there has to be a higher power you can speak to re: this.....either Macy's customer service or someone at flowerama.

Good luck!

I ordered my original dress from Macy's and then bailed out. My mom put a 200.00 deposit on my gown there and it was not ordered, so when I went back to get the money credited on her account, they said no, they are really not part of Macy's. Well, excuse me, you took a deposit on a Macy's card, why can't you credit it back! Ridiculous. I dealt with a girl there, I believe her name was Tracy. She was wonderful for me, but I never saw her again after that. Try to work with her. It's a nice bridal shop and usually empty, but you are right! The girls there have a serious attitude problem.

I'd imagine that you should put one there - more for you than for them - your room will look nicer.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for the input..I will see if she is still there. I guess the situation could be worse!

Shop around because they are a bit pricey and you can probably get your dress cheaper somewhere else.

I thought the prices were reasonable and I've heard they do the best coctail hour around!!

My girls ordered dresses there. It was a horrible experience. The sales people fought over who would help us, the manager ended up helping. I'm from out of state, so I was not ordering a dress, but I did try one on so my girls could see me in it and the staff harrassed me to buy it. We ordered the dresses in August and they just came in. I hope we don't have alteration problems. The times that I have called to check on the order, the staff was rude. We may just get the alterations somewhere else.

The staff at the Macy's bridal in Manhasset were also rude. My cousin got her wedding gown there and we got our bridesmaid's dresses.

I wouldn't waste the $$ to have a centerpiece on their table.

Somone should call Macy's and complain. That's their reputation and I'm sure they are not aware of this problem. The bridal shop is actually seperately owned.

I have no idea about the shopping experience at the Macy's you are talking about, but I ordered my dress from Macy's Manhassett and they could not have been more pleasant. I have actually gone back there about three more times, just to keep trying on my dress!!! The dress I ordered is not pictured in bridal magazines, and when I told them I wanted a picture of the dress, they had no problems with me taking a picture of the drest. The girls were all really nice as well as the manager. I have also heard from two other people that have gone there, and they never had any problems...I guess every store is different, although why I have no idea. For instance, I have always heard great things about Bridal Reflections in Massapequa but horrible things about BR in Carle Place...In any case, good luck with everything... Jeanine

Thanks Guys..that was my whole issue the $$ involved with the extra center pieces!! I was leaning towards not having one! with my wedding right up on top of me (15 days) money is tight, and what I might have thought to do before, is impossible at this point!! With one on the vendors table I guess I can ensure that my Mom gets to take on home!!

Macys Bridal?

I ordered my wedding gown in early October of last year and was told 5-6 months for my dress to come in. Everyone was really nice. (I went to Smith Haven Mall Macys). And I got my discount for registering there and all. I guess I will give them a call to check whats up with my dress sometime soon. Also I dont know yet about the alterations cause I havent started that yet. I will try to talk to the same person I saw the first time when I go back to see it. So far so good though. Let me know if you hear back from anyone if you make the complaint.

I wonder if my bad experience has anything to do with the fact that I did not order my dress from Smith Haven (they didnt get commision). I cant help it that Walt Whitman closed!! I will also mention that I initialyy tried the dress on at Smith Haven (I was sent there by Walt Whitman because they share the sample of the dress I was looking for) and they were not very nice at that point either. The manager of Walt Whitman, Christine, was very nice and helpful and I think she moved to a store in Queens. I got the discount for registering & also on head piece and girls dresses, so in that regard they were accomadating. As far as complaining, I will wait and see what happens with the fitting -which is Thurday next week so I will let you know. I dont want to turn this experience into a stressful one!

I have a few minor details about the processional that I am trying to work out, and I am just curious what everyone else is doing. Are you guys having the bridesmaids walk in with the groomsmen or are all of the groomsmen going to be at the alter and the bridesmaids walk down by themselves? I have even seen a wedding where the groomsmen meet the bridesmaids half way, does anyone have any other creative suggestions about this part of the ceremony? I would also like to know from a photographs point of view which is easier to photograph and what comes out better.

thanks in advance for your input

Yeah! Let me know how the fitting goes! When are you getting married? I amnot getting married till September so hopefly if they are going to screw up I will have extra time so it wont cause problems. I ordered mine in Walt Whitman. I personally found them a lot more helpful than the Manhasset store.

March 31 2000! My dress was actually ordered in Aug 99 and came by October. I have waited until now for fittings because I didnt want them done too early & didnt want to worry about storing dress. Also, Walt Whit. just closed this year, or Dec last year.Didnt notice 'problems' until recently. Ill keep you posted.

Macys Bridal?

Had my fitting last night and went well. Didnt encounter any rude people this time...Teresa fitted me and she was very nice and helpful. There was a small stain (dirt smudge) on my dress and she made sure it came off before I left the store (although she did try and say I mustve gotten my lipstick on it -which wasnt the case! I was worried for a minute that if the stain didnt come out they were going to give me a hard time). She also pinned up the back for me as if it were bustled because I was concerned about how the bustle will look -went with the french bustle)

They have very minimal work to do on my dress (take in the zipper, a little, hem, and bustle). Still charged the $150 for alterations + $150 for bustle. I guess that is how all bridal shops work. I go back in 2 1/2 weeks for 2nd fitting. Hopefully that will be it. Than I just have to make a 'pick-up' appt to get dress. Warning...the FULL balance of your order is due at the 1st fitting, even for alterations. This is for bridesmaids as well. Good Luck!

You should also get pre-approved for a mortgage because the housing situation is so crazy on Long Island, it's on the market for an hour and already has 5 bids on it...no joke. You must remember, you and your fiancee are now one entity and no matter how you busted your butt to have a good credit rating, his/hers counts just as much and if it's not very good, you need time to work those things out. We're learning this first-hand.

Thanks for the info Dee. What did they say about picking up the dress by the way? Cause I wont be married till September and my dress will be coming in next month I think. I am glad that they were nice to you though.

Well speaking from experience, I can vouch for the fact that it is not an easy task to purchase a house while you plan a wedding!! But I also must say that it has kept me level headed about the amount of money we spend and also a good distraction from the wedding. When I get frustrated with the wedding I work on house stuff and visa versa I also agree with Jen we are moving to NJ and the rent there is ridiculous and it just does not make sense to give away money like that. So I also have the extra burden of relocating. We could not afford a house also, but we stumbled across a house in Mid January scrapped together the down payment, and are scheduled to close March 31, 3 weeks after the wedding. My advise is to also be careful with your credit and get pre-approved this way you know how much you can afford. Good luck to all of you, buying a house right away is not for everyone but I sure am glad that we are doing it!

If it helps, I am also having a french bustle - and they charge by points. My dress has 15 points and many places charge ~$15/point. I capped mine at $120 but you're not too far off....

Check out their web page (www.mikasa.com) and then go to a few favor stores...they may be able to cut you a better deal & save you the hassle of wrapping all those gifts (I'm sure you have enough to do already!)

dee: 150.00 + 150.00 for a bussel is extremely a rip off. Why did you agree to that. I personally think that's crazy. Most bridal shops have a cap on alterations. Absolutely nothing personal to you, but that is so Macy's

So I took a chance trying Dante out. The manager was excellent. He took alot of time, was friendly, professional, and really hooked us up with a great deal. He is renting us a tux for the groom (its just him and I eloping) and its tails with a vest and shoes and we will be taking it with us on vacation and returning it 12 days later all for 125$. Very cool

Think about this place if your looking for a good tux shop, the selection was really good

I hope that those bustles are awesome because most places charge $95 for a regular and $150 for a french or underbustle. I think that the rule of full payment at the first fitting for the whole dress and alterations sounds funny. I can understand an additional deposit, but why should you pay for everything before it is done? Again no offense to the brides, but it really is so Macy's!

IT WAS GREAT!! Paul, who usually is very uncomfortable on the dance floor, was laughing and having a great time! I highly recommend it for anyone who is uncomfortable dancing - its great for building confidence!

And we finally chose a song too - for those who are familiar with Jim Brickman, its called "Your Love" on the Destiny album. The track BEFORE the title song.....

After I go for the second fitting ( to be sure all alterations are correct) -the dress will be ready. At that time I can schedule a pickup. After the fitting they will still need to do the final pressing of the dress and you can arrange to pick it up abput a week before the wedding...or I guess sooner if you wish. My dress was in since October, but thet just held onto because they say your 1st fitting should be about 6 weeks before wedding. When the dress came in I did make a n appt just to go in and try it on.

Actually when I called Davids Bridals alterations department I only told her that the wedding was the weekend before it actually was. She told me I needed to come down to be fitted asap.

I never expected it to be ready so soon! Even though the dress was a little big it didnt need too much alterations (it still cost me 75$)

Dee, That sounds like what i plan to do. My dress should be in in March so I will make an appointment to try it on. Also it is good to check it out and all. And then do the fittings much later on. What kind of dress did you get by the way? I got a Sweetheart gown.

I agree, $150 for the french bustle seems high. The regular bustle is 75. The only thing the cap there is the alterations to fit the dress--which they consider sleeve, bodice, length. That is capped at $150..so I am paying a total of $300 for alterations. How do other 'Bridal Salons' charge? I didnt shop around much, but Bridal Suite in Centerach (if I rember correctly) was $125 for french bustle and about $150 cap also. I made the decision to go with Macys Flowerama too quickly (laziness, I guess), but I would not personally reccomend them to someone else.

I got a dress by Mori Lee -Scoop neck, sleeveless with empire waist. It is all ivory (actually 'diamond white') with some 'cafe' colored trim and beading. It has a train (hence the bustle), which I hope doesnt turn into more of a pain in the neck.....It is funny, you picked out the dress so long ago, I was nervous that I wouldnt like it anymore when I went it for fittng, but I did love it just as much?? Sweetheart meaning sweetheart neck line (no sleeves at all)? They are so nice...and the weather in Sept is usually gorgeous!
