Re: Making a plea (on my own) for the Newlywed board

OK, I may get flamed for this, but its Friday so what the heck....

Arent we all supposed to be helping each other? It seems very silly to me that we are asked to keep our questions on the brides side, when there are newlyweds who have been there and can help. If I want advice from someone who has already been through this (ie a newlywed) then I am going to go where I can reach the most people (ie the newlywed board). Seems logical to me.

There are a TON of new brides to be on the BHB board. Some post about things that I am way done with, like reception halls or photographers. I dont consider this 'clogging' the board, and try to help, as I have been there and want to help them. I think that spirit should be everywhere on here, regardless of what the tab at the top of the page says.

Re: Making a plea (on my own) for the Newlywed board

I am sure I'm going to get flamed for this- and I am just as guilty in doing it- but I think we should keep personal chit-chat (meaning a thread between two people) confined to FM- this does clog the boards and may be why people like Thrilled aren't getting their questions answered because their posts get pushed down deeper into the boards... I know when I first sign on in the morning I look at the first 3 pages of BHB because a lot of questions are down there do to the 'chit chat'

I think this is exactly the point. The NW's that participate on the board for the most part are more then happy to answer any questions. But we are past the planning a wedding stage and have moved on to married life.

I think that spirit should be everywhere on here, regardless of what the tab at the top of the page says.

Then there's no real point of the tabs. Aren't they there to help sort everything out so it's easier to get an answer to your question?

Re: Making a plea (on my own) for the Newlywed board

I agree Sassy - I used to log on to the first 2 pages to see anything I missed but the personal stuff pushes the legit questions all the way down to like page 3 and 4. Plus there ARE a ton of new brides that have never been to GTGs so we don't know them and people are ignoring them. I feel bad for them because I know how it felt to be a newbie a year ago and how happy I was when someone paid attention to me and answered my questions.

I truly do think the personal stuff should be contained within FM or email. I happen to be very close personal friends with at least 5-6 brides on this board but you would never know it because we keep it confined to email, not to the BHB board.

Just 2 more of my cents, making a total of 4. LOL

Re: Making a plea (on my own) for the Newlywed board

The problem is that newlyweds no longer visit this page, and often my posts on the bridal board get ignored, just liked Thrilled's posts.

And as much as I like NWR board, its a bit silly to post bridal questions there just to get attention.

I think more people post there than BHB so brides turn to newlyweds, who in turn get irritated...

I am sorry and I understand the point newlyweds are making, but perhaps brides need to do more things to keep the BHB board useful (i.e. answer questions even if you're done with that part of planning)

Re: Making a plea (on my own) for the Newlywed board

the way to 'clean up' the boards is to definatly keep the chit chat and the 'You have FM' post to FM only. I never did understand why you would have to tell someone that they have an FM?!?! I scan the boards and most of the post seems to be that so that if anyone has a question it gets mixed in with the others and never answered. Maybe if there is less of the other posts it will elave more room for the questions that need to be answered!

Re: Making a plea (on my own) for the Newlywed board

Okay, I think that is really enough - no offense. Bottom line is people should simply post wherever they feel most comfortable - wherever they feel they will get the most/best answers. It doesn't matter what your 'status' is. This is a friendly board, so let's just keep it as that. Thanks!

Re: Making a plea (on my own) for the Newlywed board

Lisa, not everyone checks their FM frequently. And I am not referring to myself. Sometimes girls don't check their FM unless you post and say about it. I don't know why.

Re: Making a plea (on my own) for the Newlywed board

I totally agree with the FM stuff and the socializing. It's very frustrating to click on two or three threads to find that it's just gossip, not wedding stuff. I'm not against socializing of course, it's just hard for those of us who don't personally know anyone yet to sift through the stuff...

Re: Making a plea (on my own) for the Newlywed board

I still look on BHB, but there are only so many times I can talk about my band, or florist, etc.

Its not because we don't want to help, we just want to maintain a place to talk about other things too. You wouldn't ask wedding questions on the parenting board - thats about parenting (kids, TTC, new births, etc). You shouldn't ask wedding questions in StoryBoard or NWR (though they have been popping up lately). The Newlyweds are all over the boards - you don't need to come to the newlywed tab to find us.

I like helping and I answer questions when I can, but the interest definitely fades after awhile and you feel like its time to get past wedding planning and move on with your life. Thats why I like the Newlywed board - its about life after the wedding. There are a couple wedding threads on the Newlyweds tab started by brides and answered only by brides - that's just silly! Its heading in the direction to be the next BHB, and that's what we want to avoid. Why have two different boards with the same info?

I think a lot of people are spending more time on NWR, and that why threads aren't getting as many responses. Its not because less and less Newlyweds come over to BHB. Yes, after awhile a newlywed starts visiting less often, but there's always another newer newlywed to take her place.

I just hate seeing the same thread on BHB, NWR and Newlyweds! MOST people read all three - its not necessary. And I totally agree with the chit chat threads - why not use FM?

I guess as the board gets bigger and bigger, we should expect these types of issues.
