Re: Need help from newlyweds that used votive candles as placecards

Frescabride your wedding is coming up! I know that one of the vendors on here charges 1.50 to 3 bucks a candle, but they cost about 50 cents a piece if you get them on sale at Micheals -but I think that Ikea has them cheap too,
and then the vellum from Stapes is less than 10 bucks for a pad of it.

Its not too bad, but I gave up on it so my poor Mom did all of them the week before the wedding. It took a long time, I would say at least 6 hours or so.

Hey Bethsiar!!
Had not seen you around here for a long time. I bet married life is great.
My sister is trying to convince me to do this. I already ordered my placecards that matched the invitation but I showed my sister a picture and she loved it. Maybe I can give the project to her.

Your votives came out beautifully! Where did you get everything, and how did you put it together? I'm crafty, but I definitely need direction.

The only way someone could burn themselves if they put their finger inside the glass to the flame or if they spilled hot wax on themselves.

Re: Need help from newlyweds that used votive candles as placecards

I saw another post that it was bumped about the labels from Michaels that have two hearts. Are those in vellum paper?

Thank you so much. I am very happy with the way they came out. I bought everything at Michaels. I am going to look for the directions at home this weekend and if I find them, I will post them for you.

yes they are!!

here are directions:
Votive Placecard Instructions

You will need: Plain glass votive holders; light -medium weight transparent vellum; access to a Laser printer, a good scissors; double sided tape; tealights

Step One: Measure your votive holders to determine the approximate height and length around. Using these measurements, make a template of the shape of your label. Note that even the most plain votive holders will have a slight curvature, so expect the template to be in an arch shape.

Step Two: Using the approximate measurements, set up your MS Word (or any other graphic program that is useful for printing text) document to space your guests names and table numbers the right distance. In my case, I got 3 to a page with room to spare.

Step Three: Print out your document. Use the template you made in step one to cut the right shape out of the larger sheets of vellum. Set the labels aside.

Step Four: (get a friend to help if at all possible) Set up a big workstation with all your votives, labels, double sided tape and scissors. Wrap one label around the votive and trim accordingly. When the label is lined up correctly, it will lay relatively flat. Apply the double sided tape and put aside. Having all of the candles in front of you will allow you to keep a consistent appearance of the candles and give you a preview of what they will look like all lined up at the wedding.

Tips: Have candles lit no more than 30 minutes before your guests come to pick them up to ensure they are all still burning when the last guest leaves your reception.

Tip: Using tealights in place of votive candles will result in the candles getting warm but not too hot to touch. However, there is melted wax inside the votive so better to keep away from children.

The votive holder got warmer about an hour after I lit them.

Now it is 1 1/2 hours and they are hot and not really holdable(?).

I got the tealights from A C Moore ...Qty of 100 for 92 cents....

I will let you know how long they last.

What a way to spend a Friday...
