Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
the unity candle i wanted with the tapers was over a $100 so i went to Michaels and bought a white candle and 2 tapers and the swarovsli crystals i will scatter around the candle and it was like $20 i think this is the only thing i was able to save money on everything is costing a fortune

I have to say:
Chair covers
Menus
Seating card holders
Cry packets
I also agree with:
Designer shoes
Table numbers
Veil
Guestbook
I agree with all of these. I would also skimp on the unity candle (made mine myself - came out prettier than ones in the store), and ring pillow. I would also skimp on the giveaways - sometimes, people give out too much. You can skip those slipper baskets, or too many little gifts. (like me, I should've skipped the matches.) One simple favor, if you're giving one, can be beautiful.
Oh, and wear comfortable underwear. I bought this pretty, sexy, expensive thing, and my BMs, recently married themselves, said wear comfortable cotton. He'll never know. Best advice I got!

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
You don't need chair covers.Your officiant can probably give you a unity candle. You don't need a stand unless you're going to display the candle after the wedding (highly unlikely)
you can make your own menu cards dirt cheap!
you don't need toasting flutes. No one can see them.
You don't need a cake server. I had one (only because it was given to me as a shower gift) and even in the close up pics, our hands completely cover it.
You don't need cry packs- most people won't use them. (and, IMHO, I don't think anyone should assume that wedding guests will by crying)
You don't need place card holders.
Don't spend a lot on a guest book- it just gets packed away after the wedding. And, it's not even an accurate representation of who attended because not everyone will sign it. Most people don't even write a message- just their names. I got the 'special' book with room for messages and that space was left 90% blank.
You don't need to spend money on table numbers, use what the hall provides.
However, I do think you should invest your money in EXCELLENT shoes! That is money well spent!
You don't have to spend a lot on a veil, but if you want something special, splurge because it will be in your pics.
Mind you, this is my opinion 1 year later. Most of what I wrote is what I did for my own wedding. And, I much prefer having extra cash than extra wedding stuff. It all just gets packed away!

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
You can make an inexpensive ring pillow.Toasting flutes are a waste of $$. My MOH got them for me, otherwise I was going to get an inexpensive pair and try to somehow dress them up.
Fancy unity candles are also a waste. I have never heard someone say upon leaving a wedding, 'Wow, that was an amazingly beautiful UNITY CANDLE!'
I made ours- bought plain candles and tied a ribbon around it. Same as the set The Knot sells for like $40.

What I did is use double uses for my cake server. It's the Opal Innocense to match my china. So everytime I use it, I will be reminded of our wedding day.

This was sad but true for me. I had a beautiful guest book that matched my unity candle and ring bearer pillow and almost no one signed it. I should have assigned the job of overseeing it to someone, but I didn't think of it.

I couldn't agree more with the comfortable underwear! I wore boyshorts because I wasn't wearing pantyhose and I am so glad that I did.

Re: NEWLYWEDS: What accessories should I save money on?
I used the unity candle, toasting flutes and knife/server, but I registered for them all. Those are things that people will buy you b/c they know you need it! And I think each of those things were $20 each.Placecard holders are not necessary, but a good way to give an inexpensive favor.
I also had flowers on my cake, it just looks so pretty.
Making programs/menus and whatever else, if you are doing it yourself you save some money, but don't buy expensive paper, and you will need to replace your ink cartridge
. Most people don't notice if they are not there. Some halls provide menus, mine did.
I'll keep thinking

I had a guestbook and one person signed it. I didn't use a pocketbook.
