Ok FH just explained... that they arent walking around like what we think of in the movies... that some even have machine guns and many try to steal and take things over, etc.... wow this is soooooooooo scary!!!! Good quick thinking on the captains part!!!

If I were a cruise ship sailing in waters in that area, I would be packing some serious ammo. Some kind of rocket launcher or something. I don't stand for that nonsense.

They are not at all like the pirates in the movies but at a lot of that is because the pirates in the movies are from a different century. They don't dress like your traditional pirates or blow up ships with cannons, they aren't in sail ships either. They now drive speed boats and carry automatic weapons, they use GPS units to help them find ships, and use computers to track the cargo of different ships.

They mostly attack areas that have a highly traveled trade route, but this is not the first cruise ship attacked by pirates. Unless your in the Indian Ocean or around Africa you should be ok, although the occasional attack does happen in other areas. The majority of attacks are around Somalia or in the Suez canal.


Not to scare anyone but piracy is at a current all time high. But you should be ok in Europe, even Turkey and your certainly ok in the Caribbean.

I wouldn't be scared to cruise. I love cruising. Don't worry. I was just so shocked by the thought of pirates.

I am going to speak with my FH and see what he thinks - I am sure he is going think I'm completely out of my mind. Athough, maybe not - his first choice for the honeymoon is Alaska!
