Re: NWR: Lost my Job

I am so sorry, but it sounds like it is their loss and not yours. Don't let it get you down, you have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months!!

Re: NWR: Lost my Job

Don't give up! I'm an attorney too and it's really hard sometimes...some of these law firms out there are really shady...the horror stories I hear from my friends are crazy. I interned at a law firm that had me be the receptionist! Didn't teach me one thing about the law but I know how to screen a phone call...LOL. My job now is great. My bosses are laid back and my firm is one of the most reputable defense firms there are. I'm really happy there and although I have gripes, there are gripes with every profession. Don't let one seedy law firm do you in! Hang in there!

I agree on this, working in law is tough. It's hard to have a personal life and work hours are crazy. I have a friend who does that and he does 80 hour weeks easy! I hardly see him anymore 'cus he's always working and his company kinda expect him to put in those extra hours.

It's all about how much you can bill clients. :P

Re: NWR: Lost my Job

so sorry. I know the feeling I was laid off in August and they played it off as if they were soooo sorry about it and if there was anything I needed to give them a call. The reason for laying me off was because the dr. retired and the new doctor was having financial troubles getting the practice going again. Well I just so happened to call in the day before because I was really ill and got into an arguement with my office mgr. She claimed I was unreliable and that when it comes down to decisions on whose kept how could she go to bat for me. So I clued her in to the fact that I was hired for 3 days a week and work 5 to cover for other people who are sick or vactioning. I was also sent home a few times 15min after getting there but as they fired me I was assured it had nothing to do with the day before. Anyhow, I've called there since and get treated like I have the plauge and all my so called friends dont even return my calls...... WOW, LOL Im so sorry I vented on your thread. Anyhow, I know how you feel but stick with Law if you like it. I now have a great job making more money and realize my other job was a dead end anyhow.

Re: NWR: Lost my Job

i got a job about a month ago at a law firm on a part-time basis. i thought everything was going well. then they call me this morning and say that they are going to let me go. reasons: i used the internet a few times and not work related and i'm not enthusiastic enough about my job.

huh? what? not enthusiastic? i do all the work and ask lots of questions since this is all new to me. internet? what's up with a warning?

then i find out that i'm the fifth - yes, the fifth - law student they have had in the last few months and it never seems to work. i think i may have spotted a trend.

initially i practically begged that it just be a warning, but they said no. then i told them that since i'm the fifth law student they've had in the last few months that maybe they need to be more explicit as to what 'enthusiastic' means since it's such a vague term.

so no job. maybe law is not for me. perhaps i should go back to accounting . . .

just had to vent.

i'M SO SORRY THIS HAD TO HAPPEN....I GOT FOR YOU!!

There are a LOT of crazy lawyers out there... I can vouch for that. I'm one of them - and I work at a firm with about 2,000 of them!

Don't let this get you down or turn you off to the profession. You unfortunately managed to catch a quirky, crappy law office - it happens. Been there, left that job! At least you know that it was NOT just you. They're going through law students like water there. That's a sign it's a bad place to work - whether they are firing them or the students are quitting. I hope you find another new job soon, though. Are you going to law school in the NY-area? I'll try to keep my ears open if I hear of anyone looking for an intern...

Good luck to you - and sorry you had such a bad experience with them!
