You know, I was thinking about this the other day - National Public Radio was reporting on putting out a sex offender data base (something like that) with pictures and addresses... I don't know, something about that made me uncomfortable. How do I explain it? I want all of our children to be safe and if knowledge is power then great - inform us but I'm wondering at what cost? I think everyone should have a chance at rehab - we all make mistakes - we all screw up. I teach at a middle school and let me tell you - some of these 5th grade girls are developed enough to look like 17-18 years old!!! It's scary!

Pedophiles are scary. Bottom line. But what should we do, send them all to an island? Maybe... But for now we will just make sure everyone knows exactly who they are. Maybe it's just me but after serving jail time and paying fines is it really.... Ok I'm not going to finish that sentence because as I'm typing I'm thinking that if this guy did something to one of my sisters or my nephew I would need my own cell....

now I have no idea what to think

not everyone on the sex offensders list is a pedophole. any 'sexual crime' gets you on the list...even 'statuatory rape'

the best way to keep your children safe is to be as vigilant as possible, and to TEACH your children what is right and wrong.

if they are too young to defend themselves, they are too young to be anywhere alone.

there are different 'levels' of sexual 'deviance' and people need to be cognizant of that before getting concerned/hysterical/witch hunty.

Yes, some offenders are very dangerous b/c they will be offenders for life. but not all. definitely not all.

I've done it - plus kids from my stepdaughter's school have been approached by people - scary....
