I would be really careful with that patch.... it made me sick to my stomach and I had to stop it. I had to try a bunch of pills before I found one that worked - which takes time.... you don't want to be sick on that day!

You should really be on the pill for at least 3 months...it took 4 different kinds for me until I found the one that is right. Start as soon as possible if you can!

Don't ask me why but my hormone levels decided to swing all over the place in the last year. Originally I was on Ortho (worked great! till my body went out of wack), then I was on Estrostep (terrible FM why), & now I'm on Ortho-Lo which I LOVE.

I hope it helps! Unfortunaty it's a game of trial & error with some people.

if you do go on the pill, make sure they give you a monophasic one (has the same amount of hormones every week). otherwise if they give you a tri-phasic one (different amounts every week) you may have a hard time skipping your period.

i've been on the pill forever and ever. there are a couple of things to consider...

first different people react differently to birth control pills. i think it took my body a couple of months to adjust to it. this could mean - weight gain and break-outs!

i actually was fine, but i've known people that have put on up to 20 pounds. (hope i'm not scaring you!)

i would have a conversation with your doctor. birth control pills are not that expensive even without insurance. generic brands (which are just as good) cost about $30 a month w/o insurance.

i know ortho is a popular one but it is a triphasal type of pill which means it uses three different dosages each week. i am using desogen which is a monophasil one... i've never had any problems with it.

i've used bcp's several times to skip my period for vacations. your doctor will tell you to use back up birth control for at least the first month.
