My mom has a 7 yr old yorkie that is not housebroken. She got the dog while I was away at college (I trained our other dog a lab mix) and she thought the dog was 'too cute to yell at' so she let her go all over the house and never crated her. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE CRATE.

If the dog is peeing and pooping in the crate its possible its too big for the dog. For a baby yorkie you probably need no bigger than a cat carrier for a few months. Our yorkie is 5 pounds full grown and when we got her she weighed less than a pound and was half the size of our guinea pig.

If i may ask where did you get the dog? breeder? rescue? store?

A breeder or rescue will start to housebreak their puppies (most of the time) but in a store the poor dogs are used to pooping and peeing where they sleep so they are EXTREMELY difficult to house train.

As for the whining your going to have to train the puppy. You have to teach the puppy that you are not leaving forever. Start by crating her and turning your back on her when she whines. When she is quiet for a minute give her a treat and tell her shes a good dog. When you get her to be quiet with you in the room, go to another room. Same thing, ignore the whining, reward the silence. After shes quiet with you in another room leave the house for a few minutes. If you dont hear anything come in with a reward. Increase each time you leave and eventually she will know your coming back.

Hope this helps. I honestly never tried to stop a whining puppy but I either read that technique or a trainer told me. Most important part is to ignore the whining, cause the puppy is only trying to get attention.
