Re: OMG My customized aisle runner is done!! (With pic)
Because some of you asked me.......The aisle runner is called 'french floral lace' and I picked it up from Wrap With Us for about $30. My original aisle runner was 75', but Laurie happened to have a 50' one which was what I really needed. So we kind of made a trade in that respect. You can find similar ones on Ebay, just be sure to check with your ceremony location on the length you will need.
As far as doing it yourself and saving yourself about $100 - $250, you can do this:
Buy the following:
1. Aisle runner (make sure it is some kind of lace, and not vinyl or cloth as you will not be able to trace the wording as easily)
2. Fabric paint from Michael's or any craft store. Get as many bottles as you think your design requires.
3. Paint brushes of different sizes and thickness
4. Pencil (mechanical would work best)
5. Ruler
6. Masking tape
Then run to your local Kinko's and blow up the wording / picture / monogram that you need. I had to do 400% which was the max, and I realize it still wasn't big enough. So my advice is blow it up one word at a time. This might cost more, and be a slight PITA, but worth it.
Once you have this done, find a location where you can unroll the aisle runner with enough space. (A long table, a driveway, walkway, porch, carpet, etc.)
Place your wording under the aisle runner and tape it to where you want it so that your wording shows through for you to trace.
Then trace the outline with the mechanical pencil so you know where to paint. You might want to use your ruler to make sure it is properly centered.
Fill in the traced areas with your fabric paint.
Viola!! You have a customized aisle runner.
I would have went this route, but I have arthritis in both hands, and FH said he was not artistic enough to handle the task. And I have seen Laurie do phenominal aisle runners before, so I just went through her since she is already my florist.
HTH!!!
