oh well i can understand that.
maybe im lucky then b/c mine know that outside is their real bathroom. i never have a problem with them not going outside. they cant go outside and NOT go potty!!
as for teh pads... i leave tehm down in the bathroom and they use it for teh middle of the night, if i'm not home, or if its freezing outside and i dont want to walk tehm. But they go outside the majority of the time. i just still give them that option.
but like i said, i dont have a problem with them goign outside at all. like you said your friends dog uses them and it makes her go outside less, i guess we're just opposite.
and i must say that i am very clean about it! i know thats a big misconception.... well, it depends on the owner really!

you are right i am basing my opinion on my own experience with it.

My old dog we wee pad trained and then only used it..and when we tried to ween her off it...PEE AND POOP on the floor...and that is a big pet peeve of mine LITERALLY

yeah that would totally suck!

by all means though i DEFINATLY DO walk them! i dont want anyone to think i just throw a pad down and leave it!!!!

its just like a backup!

I answered the poll with the wee-wee pad selection, but we don't use wee-wee pads. We have a doggie door. I walk the dogs on the weekends.

usually 3 times a day. If it were up to her she would live outside!!! even if there is 10 feet of snow!

alot of peopel think it makes tehn 'backwards' in training but it doesnt


tehy know to go outside. but theyre allowed to use teh pads as well. theres no problem for me with that.

they arent 'confused'. when they go outside they know to get everythign out!!!

plus its harder for me. i dont have a yard or anything. i have to actually walk them.

also, i dont get why so many people find wee wee pads so revolting! as long as you keep it clean its fine!
kitty litter boxes are a helluva lot worse

I have a maltese and the winter was pretty bad and even in her heavy coat its just not fair to take her outside (maltese don't have fur - they have hair) So she used the pads and we still keep them out for her but walk her 2-3 times a day.

i have a min pin with VERY SHORT hair. I had a llasa apso who had very thick long hair...

It isn't bad to take them for a walk in the snow or cold weather to go to the bathroom. And there is such thing as coats for dogs..

My MIL has a maltese and LOVES the snow!

Eta: does any dog have fur? I thought all dogs have hair????

I wish we walked him more than he does. We have been taking Tiger to the beach now.
We have a HUGE yard, so he runs around in our back.

Bichon Frises, malteses and the like do have hair, not fur. That's why people who have allergies get these types of dogs. Also, they do say that taking my type of dog out in the freezing weather (or cold, wet conditions) is cruel. I have an Italian Greyhound. With my Rat Terrier, it's fine, but my IG finds it to be pure torture. He runs outside, does his thing, and runs right back inside when it's awful out!

I have a question for the people who walk their dogs 4 or more times per day... how long are these walks and do you have a job?? (I'm kidding) Because as much as I'd like to, I definitely don't have the time to walk my dogs 6 times a day!! But I do take them for longer walks, and sometimes they just get 'let out' which is a just a few minutes to do their business.

well i only do 3xs
and it is before i go to work, immediately after work and at about 7pm..
i would say the walk lasts about 10 minutes...one lap around my condo complex

Yeah, this is pretty much what I do. But the after work walk is about 1/2 hr.
