cw0904 - I agree with you wholeheatedly. It's a great area and so close to everything. I am in the Barnum Woods District, but even all the others districts in EM are great too! I am 2 minutes from the Sthrn St, Meadowbrook, Wantaugh, Hempstead Tpke, and Sunrise Highway so I love it. Forgot to tell you that too Marcela. Great highway convenience too! Shopping cant get better either with Old Country road right there and the mall...

Hey Marcela check out garden city - it is a great commute and the school district is VERY good - I think it is one of the best on the island - also there are some houses that are comparable in price - if you know where to look

Since you mentioned Garden City - I was interested in this area myself since someone told me about it. I live in Queens so not too familiar - What is the difference between Garden City Park, Garden City, and Garden City South? What types of houses are here, do they have any property to speak of and how are the prices/schools? Anything that anyone knows about this area is welcome!!

Definitely look into the STAR exemption. We scrambled to apply last year (we closed on our home days before the due date) and I just opened the letter saying that we should see a decrease of about $1,222 in our taxes yearly. Woo Hoo!

There are so many nice areas on LI with good schools. Garden City is nice and the size of the homes differ throughout it. I grew up in a neighboring town. Have you looked into East Williston. The schools are excellent there as well (they share the district with Old Westbury). Let us ladies know if we can suggest other towns that are similar to Jericho for you to possibly look at. Just wanted to add that we also live on the north shore of Nassau County, not too far from Jericho. As Town of Oyster Bay residents, we pay relatively low taxes, as compared to what we would have paid if we lived on the south shore, say Rockville Centre where we were looking as well. I believe our taxes are roughly $4,600 per year. We applied for the Star exemption when we moved in and that dropped it from about $5,000.

Just an FYI - DH and I just bought in EM too and couldn't be happier - I LOVE my neighbors, and as a school teacher, I've heard nothing but wonderful things about the district - I wouldn't have bought in a not so good district...

DH works in Manhattan and takes the train from Carle Place (his mom lives there, so he leaves the car in front of her house and walks 2 secs. to the train)...it works for us. I work in Smithtown, so my commute is about 35-40 min. (average), which is better than my old commute from Long Beach.

We love it here and love our location...
