Re: Ring question for my friend. She needs our HELP!
I've always heard platinum scratches more easliy than white gold...someone i knew had platinum and then had her ring reset in white gold because she hated the platinum..also i feel why spend extra money on the metal..let that go to the diamond (thats what my fh did)

My ring is white gold and I am very happy with it. I don't really know much about the plat setting other than it is very strong.

the price of platinum (as well as gold) is set by the market....when FH bought my ring, I think he said it was only about $300 more for platinum as opposed to white gold.platinum does scratch more, but when platinum scratches it can be buffed out, when gold scratches it can't be- thats why you have to have it redipped -

in response to platinum being easier to polish when it starts to age, white gold can also easily be redipped to return it to its original color.I think since most peope cant tell the different, white gold is a better option.

Re: Ring question for my friend. She needs our HELP!
i've actuallly had both- my original engagement ring setting was platinum, but when i fell in love with another setting, it came in white gold, so i have that now.the platinum is definitely heaveier and feels stronger. BUT, i really like how shiny the white gold is
and the redipping thing is not a pain at all- it cost me $10. i've had the ring 2 years, and have only had it redipped once so far. it just helps keep it shiny, and helps it keep the silver color. so, really she can't go wrong either way.

I have platinum for an ering, and we bought platinum wedding bands...I love the weight of the platinum. It also has a very slightly different appearance than white gold. I think it goes great with a solitaire....
Like everyone says, it's a matter of choice.... She should look at both and decide.
I should also add it may be easier to resize white gold?

Mine is platnium.FYI - my e-ring band is almost 100 years old. It was my great-grandmother's ring. (I wanted a bigger diamond in my ring, so I made her diamond into a pendant. THe jeweler replaces the setting for the stone). While there is a scratch or two if you look VERY closely, it's held up beautifully. It shines like it's brand new. And I know I won't have problems with my stone getting loose.
edit: And my ring had to be sized down about 2.5 sizes, but he said it wasn't a problem.

platinum - and wouldn't have it any other way. i insisted on platinum because it's stronger. plus, now that i've had my ring for a while, i LOVE the way it looks with the darker metal and the contrasting sparkly, shiny diamonds.
I'm in agreement with Jenn. I told FH I preferred platinum and I'm so very happy he got it for me.

good to know platinum is easily sized.... I hope my fingers never swell up that much that I need it, though!
