in my honest opinion she was chosen for the wrong reasons.
I'm curious why you think that...I'm not looking for a debate TRUST ME! I would just like to know why you believe she was chosen for the wrong reasons
i think she was chosen to get the votes from hilary supporters who just want to vote for a woman. and unfortunately those voters will do just that without looking at the candidates views. i dont agree with palins views but thats just me. at the RNC they really took advantage of the fact that shes a mom of 5, has a disabled child, and has a son going to Iraq. That alone with lure in mom voters who feel they have something in common with her. i just feel like she came out of nowhere and it makes me wonder that if Obama had chosen Hilary as his running mate, would McCain still have made the same choice?
See i disagree, Palin is NOTHING like Hillary politically and McCain is a smart main. I think its ignorant ( in general, not directed towards you) to assume that he put a woman up there to get the Hillary vote b/c if you bothered to take a look at their views, they're totally different people, like you said. Not trying to start anything, JMO.
yea thats what i meant i know their views are totally different but you have some naive women that will vote for her just because she is a woman and they were going to vote for hilary for the same reason. i know some girls that when hilary was running, you would ask them who they were voting for and they would say 'cuz shes a woman' with having no idea what her views were. those same voters will vote for mccain/palin just because shes a woman.
Oh I totally agree, and I think thats a terrible reason to vote for someone.

I'm not going to say who I support and I am VERY good at playing devils advocate
I do not think typical soccer moms would've voted for Hillary...she made the negative comment about housewives a while back that REALLY stuck with people. I think those women who will vote for Palin are a different breed from those who would've voted Hillary....that said I DO believe that it is RIDICULOUS to vote McCain/Palin just bc the VP is a woman. If you agree with the platforms that's one thing but it's a very bad decision to vote strictly on the sex of a candidate

I think that's a little harsh. She's the first woman to be nominated on a presidential ticket and I don't think she deserves to be torn down by other woman because she's pretty. JMHO
um ... she isn't the first woman to be nominated for vice president
Geraldine Ferraro was the first in 1984

Re: Sarah Palin looks like
My only political observation at this point is how very different the educational paths and degrees of republicans and demoncrats who have run and are running for office. Anyone else notice this?I just have to say Sarah's speach was so boring, its the same speach she gave when they first let her speak and she always repeats that bull dog line, or pit bull, whatever.
I'm dying to hear her say something new, original, inspirational, or even just something else that hasn't been said before and please no more about dogs, hockey or lipstick. I think its insulting to women.

McCain is not the same as Bush, he's been very clear about that. And change is not always progress, at least not in Obama's case. I refuse to vote for a socialist who will take over 60% of our paychecks in taxes if he gets elected. It's apalling to me that he is even running for President.

McCain has voted over 90% the same on issues as Bush.
Did he get a lobotomy?
He is clear in his speaches, true.
He's trying to get the poeple who can't make up their minds on his side.
People don't just hate Bush, they hate Bush's policies. If McCain aligned with Bush in the past, I fear he will align with Bush in the future.
Change is not guarenteed progress, I agree.
But McCain's plans aren't any different than Bush's and where did it get us?
McCain has big stakes in foreign oil. Except his stakes are in Georgia (the country). He scares me because I can see him starting war with Russia for Georgias sake. So that Amercians can continue to control Georgian oil as apposed to Russians controlling it.
Sara Palin scares me too, she actually fought to remove Polar Bears off the endangered species list so that she can drill for oil in Alaska in protected areas.
There are a lot of good reasons why species are protected, its usually because they are part of a very sentisitve ecological system that in the end protects us!
They scare me, its not good, I'm voting out of fear.

And I agree Palin shouldn't be torn apart just because she is attractive, she has worked hard for her right to be a nominatee for VP!!!

out of curiosity, where did the (I'm paraphrasing here) 'Obama will take 60% of our paycheck figure' come from? I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I am wondering if that was a figurative statement or if that was actually said/thought/projected by a source. That is the first I had heard of that.

As far as I know, he never made such a statement, it was implied that he would raise taxes, but I never heard of any numbers.
He actually did say he would raise taxes for those making over 250,000 and lower for the rest.
Occording to him, 95% of all Americans make less than that.

It's from an article I posted in the 'Vote for the President thrread'...
'The top 35% marginal income tax rate rises to 39.6%; adding the state income tax, the Medicare tax, the effect of the deduction phase-out and Mr. Obama's new Social Security tax (of up to 12.4%) increases the total combined marginal tax rate on additional labor earnings (or small business income) from 44.6% to a whopping 62.8%. People respond to what they get to keep after tax, which the Obama plan reduces from 55.4 cents on the dollar to 37.2 cents -- a reduction of one-third in the after-tax wage!
Despite the rhetoric, that's not just on 'rich' individuals. It's also on a lot of small businesses and two-earner middle-aged middle-class couples in their peak earnings years in high cost-of-living areas. (His large increase in energy taxes, not documented here, would disproportionately harm low-income Americans. And, while he says he will not raise taxes on the middle class, he'll need many more tax hikes to pay for his big increase in spending.)'
On dividends the story is about as bad, with rates rising from 50.4% to 65.6%, and after-tax returns falling over 30%. Even a small response of work and investment to these lower returns means such tax rates, sooner or later, would seriously damage the economy.
On economic policy, the president proposes and Congress disposes, so presidents often wind up getting the favorite policy of powerful senators or congressmen. Thus, while Mr. Obama also proposes an alternative minimum tax (AMT) patch, he could instead wind up with the permanent abolition plan for the AMT proposed by the Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D., N.Y.) -- a 4.6% additional hike in the marginal rate with no deductibility of state income taxes. Marginal tax rates would then approach 70%, levels not seen since the 1970s and among the highest in the world. The after-tax return to work -- the take-home wage for more time or effort -- would be cut by more than 40%.

Jenn, I cant believe some people took your stripper comment to such offense. The sensitivity on the boards is killing me. It was obviously a joke and not meant to put down women in any way
And Obama is a socialist who wants to tax us more but it seems everyones forgetting what our current president has done to our economy making it almost impossible for people to live ANYWAY. Whoever gets elected has the inevitable task of fixing what George Bush has done. Do you really think thats possible WITHOUT raising taxes?? Seriously?

Hey the poor woman probably didnt have the 300,000 budget Cindy McCain had for her wardrobe. Maybe if theyre elected Mr. McCain will give her one of his houses? How many does he have? Oh wait, he cant count that high.
He'll definitely be in touch with the middle-lower class
