seashells

i AM GETTING MARRIED AT THE CHATEAU BRIAND IN FEB 2001 AND I WANTED TO USE A SEASHELL SCENE. THE CB IS LIKED A CRUISE SHIP SO I THOUGHT SHELLS AND STUFF WOULD BE GOOD. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS OF WHAT I CAN DO FOR FAVORS WITH SHELLS. I AM PRETTY CRAFTY SO I CN MAKE STUFF. I HAVE HUNDREDS OF SHELLS THAT I HAVE COLLECTED WHEN WE RECENTLY WENT TO FLORIDA AND FROM JONES BEACH. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL. THANKS.

My girlfriend at work is also havng a beach theme. She is having a woman make small little jars with sand in the bottom and then putting lighthouse and seashells in them. You could probably find the small jars are at Patchogue Floral or Michaels Crafts. She is also putting her and her fiance's name on them with a special pen - (that's write's on glass) on the bottom with the date of the wedding. Also, another idea I've seen is buy some blocks of wax in your dress colors and melt and pour into the shells. People love candles. Good luck

You could use the shells as place cards. Use a fine line marker to write the guests' names and table number, with the date & you names on them.

Along the same lines as the candle favors, use hot glue to affix the shells to the outside of a small glass jar or votive holder. Michael's or Fantasyland sells the powdered wax, fill the jars and insert the wick. There are kits that come complete with the wax and wicks. Also, use the shells and scatter them around the table, like confetti. The placecard idea is really creative!! GOOD LUCK!

Dena,

There are two types of seashell candles that I do as favors...

One is made by chandlers candle and you can see it at www.chandlerscandle.com. I carry their line and also discount them.

I am going to tell my friend about this - using shells as place cards. How Cool!

Peace.

We are doing that for my sisters wedding on 9/23 in East Hampton, the wedding is on the ocean. I am making a low sandbox the size of the card table, putting in sand, sea glass and in the middle will be a huge hurricaine shade with a combo of different height pillar candles. Set in the sand will be all shells w/names and table #. I wimped out and ordered the shells nd a few dried starfish from a wholesale company because I was concerned I would not be able to find shells consistently big and smooth enough to clearly show the name and number. I also just ordered a big 8 lb container of blue and green sea glass. I think it will great!

Please! and Thank God!

Peace.

June - that's such a wonderful idea. Now I wish I was having a reception by the ocean. At my reception, we don't have table cards. The staff escorts each and every guest to their table.

As far as how many to get you can put several at each table if you are presenting them in frames or in menu holders. Another way to do it that is nice as well is to have them inserted into the flap of a folded napkin and lay them on top of the plate at each place setting. In this case you would need one per person.

Would you mind posting the name and number for the wholesaler you bought the shells from? Thanks!

Hi. I just odered my flowers from Flowers by Edward in North Massapequa. My family has been using them forever and they are awesome. I dont have their # with me but they are in the yellow pages. Give them a buzz. I have a clutch bouquet with all roses and steph and it was $85. I also have 13 girls, 11 ushers, I ordered 2 mom coursages, 8 regular coursages, 2 junior bridesmaids, ring bearer, 1 dad and pew bows (all of the above done in roses) and it is only $800. Which I thought was awesome for roses. It is a small shop run by a mom, brother and sister so you get alot of personal attention. Good Luck!!

www.shellhorizons.com, and the sea glass wholesaler is www.seaglassinc.com. The sea glass company will only sell to business owners but you could probably find it at Patchogue floral or you can Email through their site and they will tell you where you can purchase their product.

Hi. I was thinking of going out to Montauk for the weekend. We can rent some efficientcy apartments and hang out on the beach etc. I was thinking of staying at Gurney's Inn & Resort. They are on the beach and have a wonderful day spa. You can get massages etc. or just pay $20 to use the pool and saunas. I think it would be an awesome idea.

Not at all...in fact I just wrote someone else and listed all of the different sayings so it is no problem...
