Shelter Rock Jewish Center (and other Jewish Centers)

Just wanted to say this board has been really helpful so far in planning!

My FI and I are leaning towards Shelter Rock Jewish Center for our wedding next year (no exact date yet, but probably a Saturday in October or November). Has one had a wedding at Shelter Rock or been to one and have any reviews? We also like Sephardic Temple in Cedarhurst, we really liked Avi over there. We didn't feel as at ease with Michael at Shelter Rock, but I'd like to hear other people's experiences. Both places are also the same price and include same amount of food, but Shelter Rock does not include food for band members and photographer, they tell them to eat during the cocktail hour.

We are also going to look Jericho Jewish Center and Temple Sinai in Roslyn Heights. Probably Easy Meadow also, since everyone's been recommending it, but I'm not sure if they are glatt. Just haven't had time yet lol, we live in Brooklyn and can only look on Sundays, which is tough.

We also saw Oceanside, but hated the decor. But we found out they aren't glatt kosher anyway.

OH, we also saw the Royalton and loved it! It's probably a little too high for us though since we'd really like to try to do Saturday night if possible.

Re: Shelter Rock Jewish Center (and other Jewish Centers)

I had my wedding at the Dix Hills Jewish Center (Glatt Kosher caterer). I don't know if this is a place you would consider.

My friend had her wedding at the Jericho Jewish Center and she really liked it. I don't know further details about her wedding, but it may be worth going to check it out.

I have been to two weddings at the Sephardic temple. I really like the cocktail hour space and the food was pretty good.

Also check out Woodbury Jewish Center which is beautiful.

Thanks, I've heard great things about Dix Hills Jewish Center, but I'm trying to stay in Nassau since my side is from Westchester.

Re: Shelter Rock Jewish Center (and other Jewish Centers)

A friend of mine got married at Shelter Rock last year. It was the first Jewish wedding I had ever been to. Everything was great and the food was incredible.

Sorry I can't be of more help

Re: Shelter Rock Jewish Center (and other Jewish Centers)

My family and I have been members of Shelter Rock since I was 5. I had my bat mitzvah there, but that was obviously awhile ago hehe. FH really didn't want a temple wedding, but if it was up to me I would have gotten married at Shelter Rock. I still think it's one of the most gorgeous temple's I have ever seen and the sanctuary with the big windows is absolutely stunning.
I believe East Meadow is glatt kosher so I would definitely check it out. My sister just went to a wedding at Temple Sinai a few weeks ago and said that everything was amazing. She said the food was incredible and the ballroom is really pretty.
Sorry this isn't much help!

Re: Shelter Rock Jewish Center (and other Jewish Centers)

I am getting married at Woodbury which is Glatt and we were able to get the price down lower than shelter rock and like it A LOT better. East Meadow is a very good deal but yes, dont think it is glatt. Good luck and after the wedding I can tell you how it went!

Re: Shelter Rock Jewish Center (and other Jewish Centers)

Really? I'd love to look at Woodbury and Temple Isreal, but I assumed the price would be much higher. I've heard great things about Morrell. FH's cousin is getting married at Temple Beth Torah next August.

Re: Shelter Rock Jewish Center (and other Jewish Centers)

We are getting married on a sunday though- so, it is less than a Saturday night. The Morrell temple in Melville is nice but not glatt - but prices are less!
We wanted to stick with woodbury because we knew the cantor and it was closer to city and liked the sanctuary better. East meadow has prices under $100 a person.

Has anyone been to a party at Temple Sinai of Roslyn Heights? How is the food etc?

They don't do tastings.
Any tips would be great
