Don't know what field you're going into, but I was going on interviews this week and my wedding is a month away. I was upfront with everyone I interviewed with about my getting married and the time I would need off for the honeymoon. And you know what? No one had a problem with it.

One interviewer said it to me best. She said 'Why should I penalize you because you're getting married?' Needless to say, that woman wanted to hire me on the spot, and I've had 2 other offers since then.

So trust me, wear your ring. Better to be upfront about it right away, since it shows responsibility, stability and honesty.

absolutely!

I interview and hire people all the time and anyone who pre judges you shouldn't be sitting there interviewing you nor should you work for bosses like that.

You should absolutely wear your engagement ring to your interview. If that company is the type that would not hire you because you're getting married, then it's probably the kind of place you'd want to work anyway,

As an HR Mgr, I would say if it's the type of company that would actually think that way then you shouldn't work there. That doesn't even come into play at my company.

When I was going to the interview for my current position I wore my engagement ring and it did not make difference. I ended up with the job anyway and the two women who interviewed me told me how beautiful my ring is. They held my hands and was looking at it. I guess it depend on the person who is interviewing you.

I don't know what field you're interviewing in, but when I was interviewing in schools, I did not wear my engagement ring - and that was the advice I was given.

I can't even believe your posting this question. If someone's going to make a decision about you and your crudentials, based on if your engaged or not is not acceptable. You waited for that ring, you've earned it with your love, and you deserve to wear it EVERYDAY, at EVERY and ANY place you go!!!

I have to agree with that. In addition, it's against the law to discreminate someone based on their look, country of origin, religious belief, race, etc..

That's discrimination. Company have been sued for that.

Nobody can hire you or not hire because you are engaged or not engaged or when to plan on having children.

While it is not right to do, companies do look at these things. If you were hiring someone and without knowing anything else about them, knew that they were engaged, wouldn't you think - wedding planning, time off, honeymoon, etc....Lets just say you had the same credentials as someone single or already married... the other person may get it. It is not against the law. Employers hire people that will be most dedicated to the job. That said, once you get an offer, I'd let them know that you are getting maried and whike it won't affect your performance as an employee, you will need a little vacation time for your HM, etc..

I completely agree with DANA. Unfortunately that is what some employers think. And honestly, if you don't get hired, its not like the employer is going to tell you its because you were getting married. If you are unsure, I wouldn't wear the ring.

I voted 'no' only because I have worked in TWO different places in different fields where they didn't want to hire someone because she was recently married or engaged and they thought she was going to leave soon to have children.

And as it is against the law to discriminate in hiring if you are newly married / engaged, I am sure the Company will cite another reason for not hiring you.

Just wanted to offer my personal experience, but you should do what you feel is right!!! Good luck!!!

I have worked in Recruiting and HR for a number of years and I never noticed whether or not the person was wearing a ring.

However, I have heard of women who were applying for attorney positions or investment banking roles who took off their rings.

I have worked in recruiting, so I have some experience in this. Companies can't technically deny you the position just because you are engaged. But when a hiring manager sees an engagement ring they think 'great, this girl's going to need time off for the wedding, honeymoon...' and so on. If you're up against someone that has the same experience as you, but has no conflicting schedule with work early on, they're going to choose the other person. It's wrong, but it's true. I was interviewing right before I got married and I never told anyone until after I was offered the job. It may be sneaky, but it's really none of their business that I was engaged. I needed a job, end of story.

When I was recruiting, one of my counterparts was dealing with a company that wanted to hire this girl, but she was pregnant, so he wouldn't offer her the job. Is that discrimination? Yes. Could they have been sued? Yes. It happens all the time.

So I say, no, don't wear it.
