last year--my 4th year--was the first time i didn't feel panic-stricken over observations, and it was just the one formal all the way at the end in april AND it was our total teddy bear of an AP. before that i would lose sleep, suffer with a stomach ache leading up to the thing, and shake like a leaf through most of the lesson.

what i learned is that letting nerves get the best of me takes away from the quality of my teaching. just focus your energy on creating quality lessons each day and making sure your kids are learning. if you can forget about the person in the back of the room--or the uncomfortable possibility that they might show up--then you will shine for all the reasons they hired you in the first place no worries!

This is my first year in a new school and I'm getting observed for the first time on Monday. I'm soo nervous-- esp. because my kids are special ed. so they're very unpredictable!

I've been teaching 5 years now, When I first see my administrator walk in the room I get that initial knot in my stomach, like 'Oh Lord not another observation!' but after like 5 minutes I usually forget that they are even in the room and I just get in my element.

So, I found out today from someone I work with that tomorrow administrators will be doing 'pop-ins' or informal observations...I'm sooo nervous bc its my first year in a new school and even though it's my 4th year teaching, it almost feels like I'm starting all over again bc everting is sooo different in this school. (I went from LI to NYC) bc I live in NYC. Do you ladies still get that nervous felling when you get observes, I thought it would get better and better and I would feel less and less nervous, but no. I'm still a nervous wreck! lol

It must be a NYC thing. My school is doing random pop in observations too. But it's by AP's from other Academies. I love how they can walk into a 90 minute class with 15-20 minutes and expect to know what went on prior to their walking in and why you aren't doing what your 'agenda' says you should be doing.

Grrrrr...

To top it all off, our school may be taken over because we have 'too many' incidents lately.

im always nervous about it but then i think to myself, theres no controlling whats gonna happen so i just try to the best that i can. im sure u will be fine, good luck!

I teach an ESL class and a literacy class.. My background and certification is really in ESL. In my school, we teach in 90 min blocks (double periods). The literacy at this level is new to me so I'm learing as I go along. Also, the makeup of my class is differerent than all the other 7th grade literacy classes (ESL, Resource, etc...) So I'm basically on my own as far as planning so it's really different than what I've done before.
