Re: The TIPPING subject.....
Okay am I wrong for thinking that if your self employed then you shouldn't get a tip. One of my vendors works for herself. Why should I tip her. Don't you tip people who work under others? It's a full profit for someone who is self employed.

This is what I have so far....
Tipping is subject to change.....
Maitre'd $525 -700 (175 @ $3 & $4 - could be more or less)
Bridal Attendant $150 - 200
DJ $200 (for 2 ppl) + dinner
Photo $150 - 200 (for 2 ppl)+ dinner
Video $75 - 100 (1 guy) + dinner
Day Limo $50-100
Pick-up Limo $50 (after Reception)
Florist $20.00 (delivery guy)
Total $1220 - $1570![]()
![]()
![]()
your tiping amount is much higher then mine, AM I being cheep??? both the dj and photo own the business and are doing the gigg....the video poeple in my opinion realy dont have that hard of a job...
do you think my tipping amounts are ok??
I don't think you're being cheap. I may have different circumstances than you do.
I have my photo and video people for 12 hrs (so I thought I should feed them) and I have a pretty 'outgoing' family so they'll really be working at the reception - so that tip reflects that.
The DJ I got at an amazing price (more than 50% off and he's hooking me up with his best DJ, all the extras and he'll MC - family friend...) so he's getting a slightly larger tip since even with the tip I'm under my DJ budget and way under what the cost would have been everywhere else or if I didn't know him. (He's awesome and he played my engagement party).
I also have more guests, so some of the services will have to do more work..
Tipping is discretionary based on your situation - It's going to be different for everyone. I think you're ok with your amounts.

Re: The TIPPING subject.....
OK..some questionsI was told that I am suppose to tip the DJ 20% of the total amount....isn't that a lot?
Does the florist I work with get tipped?
here is what I think I'm going to do:
Officiant - 200 gift certificate to a restaurant (he's not charging me to marry me)
Make-up- $50.00 (she's staying with me while I'm taking pictures)
photographer and videographer - (one of each) - dinner and $50-100 each (they will be with me for 8 hours
Maiter-D - $750.00 - $4.00 per person
Bridal Attendant - $100-150 depending on service
Delivery guy - $20.00
Am I missing anyone?
And is this enough?

I was thinking the same thing. I thought you only tipped people that perform services for which they are not directly paid.
I could be wrong, though...

We are probably going to tip:
$100-photographer
$100-videographer
$5 per person to the Maitre D'
$100 each Bridal Attendant
I can't say what we are tipping our DJ and Limo's because both companies read these posts and I don't want them to know until our big day (you will have to wait to find out Vinny and Manny)
And I heard you should tip the delivery guys for the florist, but I don't know yet what we are tipping them. Is anyone else doing this?
$5 per person to the Maitre D' - for me that would mean he/she get's $1,000 I think that is ridiculous!!!

Re: The TIPPING subject.....
I think I'd like to become a Maitre'd in NYC. Do 3-4 weddings a weekend (making around $3-5K) - I'd have this wedding paid for in cash in about 2 months. And have some sweet gambling money left over!

well, they dole the money out to their waitstaff, so they don't keep it all to themselves, but probably a good chunk of it.

Re: The TIPPING subject.....
I think I'm giving my officiant $50 that's what my family usually does for him and the altar servers I'll do separately.I was told that the day of I'll have 3 Maitre'd s and there will be one that I won't even see probably. When I give one the tip it's split amongust all 3. The bridal attendant wasn't mentioned so I thought that's what they are calling that person????? Am I wrong?
My mom works w/ catering halls sometimes as wait staff she says that the maitre'd gets a huge chunk! she ends up with like nothing and all the wait staff gets soooooo pissed offf!!!! The bartenders don't care about our tips usually because the guests tip them so much they make a ton they always tell her that.

Do they still give $$ to the waitstaff is the gratuity is included in the contract? My contract includes 18 or 20% gratuity in the per person price. Isn't that for the waitstaff?
