Re: This may be a tacky question.......

well, when i went for an appt. with a florist that often works at my church

she told me NOT to do floral arrangements in the church bc you have to leave them there anyway

my mom is still making me do two arrangements. . .

but we have to leave them there - i would personally feel funny taking them anyway

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

ugg just take em - esp if there is someone getting married after you -- more likely it would get tossed! in our paperwork it said we should leave them but my cousins took them over to my mom's hyouse --- where everryone was headed after the church. dont feel bad, you paid for them AND gave the church a 'donation'

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

Definitely check with the rectory. My church told me that I should take them since they have so many weddings that most flowers end up in the dumpster.

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

FH's church said that we HAVE to take the flowers with us. I thought we were supposed to leave them also, but I guess not. I think you would be fine if you took one of them. It's not like you are leaving them nothing....you still have 2 left behind.

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

My florist actually asked me if we wanted the flowers taken from the church to the reception so I think this is done a lot (especially if there's another wedding after yours...the flowers will probably just get thrown away).

I did leave mine at the church so they would have them for Sunday services, but I am told they had their regular flowers delivered anyway...

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

My florist was telling me that the church considers it a donation. She said that in one wedding she did the bride refused to listen to her and had her BP STEAL the baskets to be used at the reception. I have to say, they did look out of place at the reception.

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

I've always seen them taken after the wedding. They are just going to remove them esp since the bride after you is using her own. Take them, you are paying for them.

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

omg some of you must be kidding me (im sure ill get a huge number of responses for this one)
..im wondering how many of you are actually getting married in the church for the religious purpose, or for the pictures...take the flowers cause u paid for em? give me a break, im gonna assume that since most of us are paying over id say at least 25-50k for our weddings, im pretty sure the 300 bux u spend on your alter baskets can be used nicely in the masses at the church for that week...for those of you that have no clue, they actually have services monday through friday not just saturday and sunday...
trust me, youre not doing the church a favor, they're doing YOU one!

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

get out of town, HELLO you are paying for them.. i had 2 huge baskets at my church and had a relative bring them to the hall for me! TAKE THEM! you gave them enough! ( i gave them $650)

ps my mom works in a church and they throw them out usually so sad or they give them to someone to take to a nursing home but its rare she said. My mom was the one who said take them, and the relative who cleans the church who took mine also said take them

yes they are doing us a favor, but sheesh we are making a sarcament for goodness sake it should cost nothing to get married in a church. its a religous matrimony between you , your hubby and God

ok i said my peace, sorry if i offended anyone

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

im not offended by your post at all, i do think if you ask if they'd use it and they tell you its gonna get thrown out, then obviously id would be ridiculous...(imo i think an alter basket would look out of place in a RH anyway)

but i do believe that yes while we are receiving a sacrament, to the church thats really ALL ITS ABOUT...they dont care about what youre doing at the reception hall afterward lol...the big party that goes along with the wedding isnt part of the sacrament...

i think its like bringing an expensive bottle of wine to someones house for a dinner party, and the people dont drink, but all the guests do...
ok so lets say when u leave your bottle wasnt opened...do u bring it home with you now? or do you leave it for the next guests of theirs to enjoy even though THEY wont be drinking it...
class ladies ;)

Re: This may be a tacky question.......

I know the girl getting married after me , and she ordered flowers as well...

I think I will just ask the church coordinator... I was just thinking that if they are going to toss them anyway, one basket might look nice on the table where I am placing the pic of me and my fiance is all.

My church doesn't allow flowers on the alter at all for masses, so they don't get flowers delivered for weekday masses or weekend masses.

It's funny, there are so many little things that you only think of at the last second!

Thanks for all your input!
