From what i understand, the studies done on low carb diets are rather inconclusive.

There have been more reliable studies that show in the long term, eating a diet full of fat (particularily the kind that comes from red meat like steak, bacon, etc) will have serious consequences. Increased heart disease, increased risk of cancers, etc..

But who are we kidding? Does anyone go on Atkins to get their heart healthy? No way - we go b/c its supposed to make our asses smaller.

If there was a diet that gauranteed you that you would be your 'perfect' size for the rest of your life but you had to die 5 years earlier...how many of us would turn that down?

Doesnt the South Beach Diet emphasize the healthy fats!!!

Can you eat avocadoes and nuts on Atkins? They're healthy fats!!!

LOL!! I agree -- the majority of us go on diets to lose weight, not get healthy .. it only takes a health crisis before most people do that!

I never had any desire to live until I was VERY old .. so I'd DEFINITELY take the 'pefect size for the rest of my life' offer!!!! Ahh, to be able to eat whatever I wanted and WEAR whatever I wanted? A DREAM COME TRUE!!

I am (very unsuccessfully) trying to stick to a low carb diet. I almost killed FH this weekend because I wanted a vanilla milkshake so bad - the milkshake song was whirring around in my head.

So I got one and sucked it down like an animal (think Chris Farley gap girls skit lay off me I's starving). Funny thing is I never have/crave milkshakes when Im not on a diet.

I know people that have lost and so far have maintained weight loss through atkins fro 20#-100+#. I can't help but believe that by maintaining a healthier weight is good for you over all.

It was one from the Diner even better - so there I am with a feta and spinach omlet lettuce tomato no bread no hash browns, with my big ol milkshake - what a loser i am.

I have dreams about sushi now too .......

It sometimes seems like EVERYTHING has carbs!

i.e. Regular milk has 12g per 8 oz.

when I tried the lo-carb diet, it said that after a few days you would 'lose your desire ' and 'cravings' for carbs ....

No way in my case! If anything, I craved them MORE THAN EVER! (even things I normally did NOT like)..

I'm back on WW now

Dairy has carbs - and ice cream has tons of sugar (=carbs)in it

I did atkins a couple of times and I wouldn't say I craved carbs but I still really wanted french fries.

But then people say that happens with smoking too and 8 months later I still really want a cigarette.
