Tipping @ Crest Hollow

Hi, I'm looking for advice on tipping at Crest Hollow Country Club.
We were charged a 20% gratuity fee on the final bill, however our event manager said that it's also customary to tip the maitre'd. He recommended $1000.
I'm wondering if that's too much? Can anyone post how much the tipped the guy, if anything?
We're having 140 people.

that is way 2 much, somewhere between $3-$5pp is good.

Yeah, it does seem a bit high. I still don't understand why his tip isn't included in the 20% that we have to pay as it is.

I used to work for an RH. I was told to say if someone asks about the TIP for the maitre D and why wasnt that included in the 20% fee I would say its because thats for the waitstaff, people to set up the space stuff like that.

I would tell people $2-$4 per person. Where I was I knew the Maitre D' was making a really good salary. When I went to CLM to look the guy told me $2-$3 per person was enough since they sometimes do 2 events a day and they make a lot of money.
