Tux questions

hey there! Just did some shopping around this wkend. What prices have you guys seen for tuxes? Nothing too fancy- traditional jacket- two buttons. with an Ivory shirt ( MY dress is Ivory) and a bow tie and full vest. Went to Dante- quoted $150 with shoe rental...but if the alterations are off and we miss the van Fri morning- the ushers have to go to Linden NJ to the plant! Zellers- service was poor, no knowledge of the merchandise, selection was smaller...priced about $135.

local store...great service and all employees also do alterations on premisis...$110 w/out shoes for the guys..and $85 for the pillowboy.

How does this compare to what you are seeing? Thanks in advance!

Tux questions

Comparable to what we've seen.

$145 for tux w/shoes (tails & reg) at Flowerama Tux Shop in Bayside.

Zellers was actually 150. Not nearly as good (in our opinion)

Tux questions

Ok ok...here I go with the tux questions! With the prices you guys have talked about all I can say is WOW! In our shop the MOST is $143 with the vest, AND upgraded shoes. I do not understand how the other stores charge so much. Anyone interested in prices with me, please send me an e-mail, and I'll work some out for you. Or you can call me in the store at 737-6579.

GOOD LUCK, Cynthia

If you are not a member of BJ's the journal also has a free on day pass. You can get a copy of the journal at the front desk. You need to have a coupon for each box, but they will give you as many journals as you want.

Tux questions

MY RESPONSE TO ALL OF YOU IS TO NOT RENT AT ALL. YOU CAN FIND BEAUTIFUL, NAME BRAND TUXES AT SYMS FOR $150-200. I THINK THE MEN'S WEARHOUSE HAS SOME AS WELL. ALL GROOMS SHOULD LOOK INTO IT. THINK ABOUT HOW MANY TIMES YOUR FUTURE HUSBAND WILL BE WEARING IT. IT IS WORTH THE INVESTMENT TO GET SOMETHING THAT FITS PERFECTLY...ESPECIALLY FOR YOUR OWN WEDDING.

GOOD LUCK, Cynthia

tuxes in BKLYN

Thanks for the follow up ladies. Troubli sI am in Bklyn, getting married in Woodbury. So I can't go all the way out to Smithtown for tuxes, and neither can the wedding party. but I did get some ideas on rates...and my quote of $108 doesn't look too bad. If there are any suggestions in Bklyn, let me know!

tuxes in BKLYN

Phyllis: Rogers is a chain. They have lots of locations

No one is forced to do anything. I've only made suggestions in areas that I thought you might be interested. We are talking about paid employees in a service oriented business. Not the owners who "charge thousands of dollars" (as if we're stealing from you or being innapropriate in our pricing. Believe me; if any business owner charged the wrong amount, he would be out of business in no time. And there are very few vendors who are making a fortune while maintaining any semblance of family life. Most of us are in this business because we enjoy it; not to make a fortune or to have an easy life!)

YIKES!

oK- Pinch me! OHMYGOSH I am having a bit of a meltdown. Thanks!

Is Brentwood CC now called Crystal Brook?? I see advertisements for the Crystal Brook CC all the time in Newsday...the have an all inclusive deal (like $9k for everything). I think they also advertise a showcase. Sorry, I dont know anyone who has been to either. Good Luck!

Since he is a professional in this area & it is new to me, I personally appreciate his comments and have found them to be very helpful.

Tux questions

We went to Dante in Westbury. Mike the owner took excellent care of us. We spent about 1 hr there trying things on and then deciding what to do for the guys tuxes to. We had shopped around a bit but felt very comfortable dealing with him. we got 11 tuxes total-- 3 free and all the guys pay $99 for whatever style we wanted. This includes vests and shoes. I cant believe what prices other places are getting. Good luck to all.

You talk about insults and the sniping yet you felt the need to insult people here anyway. I have been using this site for quite a few months now and have received and given opinions and information I found valuable. I have not seen any of the animosity the 3 of you talk about, but I don't read every thread if the topic isn't something I need. Opinions such as these however, in my opinion should be kept off the board as it's not related to weddings. If you have a problem with how people respond or talk to each other, kepp that private and in email. We don't all need to hear about it.

Tux questions Dante

I agree totally with Lisa.

I also delt with the manager, Mike. I had special needs because we are eloping and not only did he give me a very expensive tuxedo...he is letting me keep it for two weeks at no additional charge.

I walked in with a form that my wedding coordinator in Hawaii had sent to me. I just needed a fitting and someone who would take time with me even if they werent going to make a sale. He was totally cool with that. But when he saw what the tuxedo place in Hawaii was gonna charge us for just a basic tuxedo ($130) he told me that he would give us top of the line designer tails with a vest for $20.00 less and that I can take it with me on vacation and when I get back I can just drop it off like a day or so later. Talk about a really cool guy. I would recomend them to anyone!

dante-lisa & judy

Hi there- I went to Dante in Bay Ridge. They were accomodating, definitely! The rate they quoted us was $148...with a party of 7. Groom Tuxs for free. I wonder why the rate is so different for Bklyn?? We had a traditional tux- no tails or anything. Hmm..

Did someone say daisy candles? I am looking all over for daisy candles. I found some at genwax.com (Thanks Jennifer!), but if you know of somewhere else too, please let me know!

Sounds wonderful!

Phyllis

Most of my bridal party lives in Bklyn so if you find a reasonable good place there, please post and let me know as I'll need a place as well. I don't want to make all the guys come out to LI if there's someplace reasonable in Bklyn (close to home).

I know Mike had said that he isnt affilated w/ the other stores b/c we had a guy in Staten Island. and there is a store near him. He is just going to get his measurements taken (free at most stores) and send them in to the store. As I said before, Dante in Westbury is a definate place to check out if you need tuxes from Nassau. I know it siounds like I'm pushing this place, but when you find a vendor who really goes above and beyond to help you, ya kinda wanna shout it from the rooftops. Besides my fiancee was actually pumped up about his tuxes..imagine that..lol

Thanks to reading about it here, my fiance and I went to Dante in Westbury this past week, and I definitely agree with all of the praise. We also dealt with Mike and he is absolutely great! Thanks, Lisa and Judy!

If the tip is included, the tip is included. No need to tip anymore, especially since you had to pay the tip already up front.

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. I truly don't understand all this hostility and resentment. You obviously don't know me, yet feel ok in forming these judgements. All I've done is answer people's questions, try to give advice, and defend myself against people who seem to be quite angry about something. I don't quite get it.

Yes, they have paper selections out so that you can view and feel the sheet. You can buy by the sheet or by the reem (or case). In fact, they had four different weights of vellum...wouldn't be able to tell the difference without holding up a single sheet to the light :-)
