I agree. Guys are like taught from birth to act like marriage is the worst thing ever (hence the ball and chain analogy). He is an insensitive boy - I am sure he was just trying to be cool. Ignore him - what matters is that your FH wants to marry you.

ETA: FBIL constantly 'ribs' FH telling him that I must have suckered him into proposing - since we were together for a while.

Ugh - it is like a foreign concept to him that people get engaged and married cause they love each other and want to be together forever.
