BTW: These are the ones we are using. The largest one is 10 inches, so don't be fooled by the picture.

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

Has anyone seen the one where you pour it into a vase type thing that has a picture of the two of you inside? I thought that was different, but can't remember where I saw it....

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

I like both...the thing that makes me stear toward the sand is that the flame on the candle gets blown out...but the sand can stay there forever, and mixes more over time if you move it around...I think it's much more sybolic of two people coming together....bringing different experiences, but becoming more and more alike over time.

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

I have no idea what a sand ceremony is... but isn't a Unity Candle for Catholic/Christian couples? I didn't think that it was acceptable for interfaiths?

Yup, it's acceptable. Our minister is an interfaith minister who is doing a spiritual interfaith ceremony (meaning God will be mentioned, but w/ no referance to any specific religion). He gave us the option of sand vs candle. FH did not like the candle idea, so we compromised to this. It's basically the same concept...you take 3 vases (2 small, 1 big). There is a special saying that the minister says and then we both empty our containers into the big container. We are using colors that are not so bright as what is in the picture.

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

Do you only use colored sand? Or can you just use the sand from the beach where the wedding is? I think all the containers are beautiful! I'm not having my ceremony on the beach, but the reception is on the beach. I'd love to keep some sand from the beach in a nice container like that. (I'll put it right next to my turf from Yankee Stadium. lol)
