Re: found kittens in garage
thank you all for replies and suggestions. Please keep fming me if you are seriously interested in giving them a home. We believe there are 5 kittens altogether - they are hiding behing cabinet inthe garage, so it is hard to tell, but when we put food out, we counted 5.

Re: found kittens in garage
OMG, they're so cute. Definitely try the North Shore Animal league. However, when we adopted Agatha around this time last year, we actually had a hard time finding a kitten at the local shelters. They all got adopted within a week. We went to Babylon on a Saturday afternoon and they didn't have any kittens left, they'd all been adopted, then went to Islip, no kittens. So later that week my fiance went to Hempstead and brought home Agatha. They're so tiny, I'm sure they'll find good homes. That's Agatha, BTW, in my avatar.

Re: found kittens in garage
Sha- now there are 5? want me to try and call Last Hope tomorrow? I just looked up their info: Last Hope Animal Rescue, Inc.597 W. Jericho Tpke., Huntintgton, NY
631-425-1884
Let me know and I'll call them tomorrow if you want. Based on the posts about them, it doesn't seem like there's an age or a weight requirement like some other shelters.

Re: found kittens in garage
once we fed them, they all came out and there are 5 kittens altogether.I've had some people who are interested, so I can call Last Hope if that doesn't pan out. They might be as old as 5-6 weeks since they were eating the solid food. I'm just concerned if they are separated from the mother before they are ready, they will need extra care from whoever adopts them.

Re: found kittens in garage
You can take the kittens and the mother to north shore they will take them in and adopt them out. They are great there. I have gotten 2 dogs and a kitten from there before.

Re: found kittens in garage
All the people who used last hope - do they require you to become a foster parent for the kittens or something? I can give a donation, but i honestly don't want any further involvement.Thanks.

i actually called north shore yesterday and they told me that they would not take the kittens unless they were at least 1 lb 12oz and that if the mother cat was over one year of age, they would not take her.

Re: UPDATE: found homes for kittens in garage
Oh, I'm so glad you found homes for those kittens!!!!!!!
As for the mother and finding a no-kill shelter, you could try Fur Babies in Shirley. That's where we got our puppy from.
