If you don't like the room that will be available to you, then why don't you look at other places? From your post, it seems like you have only seen CLM - so how do you know that you will not like any place else? There are lots of places on LI with great deals and beautiful grounds, maybe you should look around a little bit. Why would you settle for something you don't like because you like the idea of CLM? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Well...I love everything about CLM....the room is my only reservation and I'm trying to decide if that's a big enough reason to not go with it. Will people really notice it? Will I even be bothered by it day of? Is it that important? Doesn't service/food count for alot more than the size/shape of room?

I will see other places...but it's just hard when your heart was simply set on something, ya know?

Re: Upstairs room at CLM

when i went there to get prices thats the room they wanted to give me. But i told the,m if i booked the only room i want was the lower 1! i thought the upper 1 was nice...but i did feel like the low ceilings made the room feel tight. After a few convos w/ Nick he did say yes for the lower room and let my gaurantee stay the same!

talk 2 them...they want your business they will work w. you!!

Well it seems to be there is zero availability for the big room for Saturday day weddings. :( We checked all of the dates in August...and that room is booked completely. :(

on to Fox Hollow I guess! But I'll still be going to the tasting at CLM for sure.

Re: Upstairs room at CLM

My wedding is going to be in the upstairs room and I thought it was gorgeous. I don't know if they did it yet, but they are changing the carpet upstairs to match the stairs.

good luck..the food is amazing and the people are just as amazing.

I can TOTALLY understand having your heart set on something - but the room is a big part of the whole package. I know when we were looking at RHs that was one of our factors in choosing our hall - we LOVED the room at Westbury manor that we used, and that sealed the deal for us. It was between WM and another place, and we didn't really like the room at the other place.
Why don't you give anyplace else a chance? You never know!

You're absolutely right- I guess what makes this harder for me is that I'm planning from out of town, and I'm starting my first year of teaching. I'm just way too stressed already to add this stress to the mix. I was hoping it could be as easy as going with the place I had my heart set on. Duh! Not the best laid plan, that's for sure! I don't know when I'll get to come back to LI to visit more halls, and I'm worried the dates will be gone, know what I mean?

Thanks to everyone for your help and support!

[I agree with the other posters to go with your gut. Also, when i was shopping around, I looked at both CLM and FH and both were reasonable. I will also say that the BM we dealt with at FH was really nice, I believe his name was Joe, or Frank...something Marino I think...anyway, he was very negotiable so if you approach them with CLM pricing and say that this is what the decision is coming down too, maybe they'll work with you. No harm in trying. Also, did you check out Riviera or VYC? Both are on the water and are reasonably priced as well.

Ugh it hurts when my heart was set on it....

So FH is comparable in price to CLM? That would be awesome cuz I am truly in love with the Winter Garden Pavilion. I think that room would be spectacular during the day.

ugggh but I LOOOOVE CLM's package!! and service!! I just worry with bad weather it just won't be as great- no more boat ride, no outdoor cocktail hour. UGGHH

Yes, FH was within a few dollars of CLM so go check it out. And like another poster said, there are SO many nice places that have great prices and are really nice. Go shop around if you aren't totally comfortable with what you are getting at CLM...DON'T SETTLE!!
