Okay, I think I really found THE dress now. I have been searching feverishly since I posted this message originally. I tried this dress on today at Bridal Elegance in Dix Hills. Unfortunately she only had a size 12 sample. But I am going to call around to a bunch of stores tomorrow to see what sample sizes they have. It is perfect. It has a sweetheart neckline, off the shoulders, 3/4 length sleeve and beading on the top, bottom, back and train. I really hope I can find a sample that I can try on.

That's beautiful Glad it worked out. Try Lillettes in Baldwin. My sample was a size 16 and it had panels in the back to go bigger.

I have to agree with Lillette's my sample was also a size 18 and as I mentioned before I'm a street size 24. I was still able to try on the sample gown.

Btw- I love that gown that you were looking at.

I am the same size as you and had the hardest time with a dress because i have the same arm issues!!! I can totally relate. I wasn't even enjoying looking for a dress b/c I felt that I wouldn't ultimatley feel comfortable or pretty in any of them. Granted, I am extrememly hard on myself, but I did want to feel confident.

I actually found a strapless dress by casablanca that i absolutley loved. It had lace details. turns out that casablanca is one of the few designers who will customize dresses. so, i had them custom make me a bolero jacket with 3/4 lenght sleeves out of the same lace on the dress. it cost about $200 additionally. It was the answer to all my frustrations and I'm absolutley and IN LOVE with my dress. I'd be happy to help you search around if you need help. FM me if you need to know anything else.

Bottom line...you know you'll look gorgeous. try to think positive (as hard as it can be!).

Something that I didn't realize until I ordered my dress. If you're willing to pay a little extra, you can add whatever you want to your dress. If you want sleeves, see if they can add them for you.

I feel your pain. I'm a plus size bride too. I DREADED going wedding dress shopping. BUT, on a whim, I went to David's and it wasn't that bad, fat arms and all, I bought a strapless dress and the skinny girl next to me told me that I have beautiful shoulders and that I should be showing them off. So, no matter how hung up we are on parts of our bodies that we hate, some other people can see them as beautiful. Go dress shopping, bring someone with you that you trust. Someone that isn't going to yes you to death. When it comes down to your wedding day, everyone is NOT going to be looking at your arms.

I literally called 19 different dress shops yesterday looking for that dress in a larger sample size. They were stores from Long Island and Weschester. No one even had the dress at all. One woman called Dere Kiang in Florida where they have two dresses, one in a 16 and one in 18. Obviously I am not going to Florida to try them on. I am thinjking of trying to find a dress maker who can make one like it from scratch or I can just order it in a 20 or 22 and have a seamstress alter it for me. I will keep you all updated.
