We lost two dogs within a year of each other.
One of them died with all of us around him. (He was old.He used his last breath to turn to look at me.I had rushed to the house when my mom called and told me how bad he was.)

I still miss them both a lot.
I know how difficult it is.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my cat to cancer 12/27 and I still am having a hard time with it. I had her for 13 years, and whe was there for me through so much. I still wonder how I get through the days without her now.

Marcela, that poem is so beautiful. It came with my cat's ashes, and it made me cry so much. It is very beautiful. I thought of it as soon as I saw the post and was going to do a search for it, thanks for posting it!

The loss of a pet is as hard as the loss of any family member. I am sorry ... You & your family will be in my thoughts & prayers today.

I don't know what to say. My dog is such a big part of our lives that losing him would just be too awful to imagine.

again - thanks everyone - not to sound like a broken record but it seems unreal still- we just expect him to start barking or come greet us or want us pet him or something....it will take some getting used to, thats for sure...

I'm so sorry...

I've had to put many special babies to sleep and it never gets easier. I was actually crying on my way into work today over a cat I put to sleep three years ago due to jaw cancer. I don't even know why he came to mind..

Don't beat yourself up about your choice. You did the best for him and he went peacefully knowing how much you loved him. Sometimes we put our need of our pet in our life ahead of what is best for them. The pain of the cancer would have only gotten worse. Now he's waiting for you on the other side and he's free from pain and illness. He's in a beautiful, serene place.

thanks!! everyone's support means so much - one thing i learned by having him was that before, i used to think so its 'just a pet', but now its more than that.....the good news is though that fh's dad has been going out more with friends now - apparently sicne he doenst have to worry about feeding the dog (although we used to tell him that he'd be fine anyway - he is a dog!) so that is promising at least to us that he is getting out there more.....
