Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

I wanted a small wedding too...now it's gigantic and an unbelievable amount of money!!! If you want it small, make an effort to keep it small or it can get out of hand!!!

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

LOL I agree with you vintage. We want about 70 and fortunately because we booked a Sunday morning, they brought our minimum from 85 down to 70. We are expecting maybe 85 tops. We couldnt think fo 125 people! LOL.

As for the original question, it depends what you are comfy with. We didnt want a HUGE wedding because honestly its a terrible expense and most of the people at those big weddings are not even ones you consider important in the first place-sad but true. We wanted it to be about the people we really love and who love us. If we had out way it would be a thirty person wedding, but of course the parental units need to invite people of their own.

If you are unsure of who to invite and who not to, we used this rule of thumb and made our parents use it too;

immediate family, close friends, and anyone who they have an actual reltionship with now who they want to invite. If its someone they know but dotn interact with socially on a regular basis, they aint comin!

Good luck!

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

Well 125 I would still consider big. LOL. I wish I could have had a small one 40-50 or so. Frankly, I wish it was just me and my fiancee on a beach at sunset. We have a lot of family to include though.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

I don't think 120 is small. We're having 140-150 and I think that's starting to get large.

My brother had 100 and it didn't feel small at all - in fact, it was nice because only those really close to the bride and groom were there.

I'd only have a bigger wedding if we had bigger families... It would only be worth the expense to me if it was to include people we're really close to.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

compared to some of the weddings I have been to ours was small....well smaller. We had 130 people at our wedding. They can get out of hand. I know someone who invited over 350 people.

I think you should do what you like and what you can afford.

We paid ourselves so we kept it very small - we wanted 85 but wound up with 95. It was great - we got to enjoy seeing everyone and didn't feel completely overwhelmed by it all.

Even if you're not paying for the hall, you'll need less of the invitations, favors, programs, menus, and there will be fewer tables so you'll need fewer centerpieces so you will save on flowers, too... I'm sure there are other things that I'm forgetting....

This is us too. We are keeping it VERY small since we are the only ones fitting the bill. I am hoping that we will not go over 90. Planning our small wedding is stressful and time consuming . . . I can't imagine how things would be if we doubled our guest list.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

fh and I are having a small wedding. We're inviting 75-80 and are expecting about 50-60. We both have big immediate families and friends that we've know since our childhoods. I cut out co-workers and he is just inviting his partner. I know that some of his college friends won't come b/c they live pretty far.

Whatever way you choose to have your wedding, make sure that it is a true reflection of who you are. It will be beautiful!

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

They say your wedding ends up twice as large. We originally wanted 75 guests. Our minimum is 110 and I'm happy having this amount. I can't imagine needing extra invites and CPs and favors etc... I'm having a hard enough time keeping my budget low enough.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

I think 125 is a great size. We invited about 200 and are expecting 150. I'd be happy with an even smaller amount, but I have a very large extended family and both sets of parents (who are helping pay) wanted to invite some of their friends.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

We would have LOVED to have a smaller wedding, but with 220 people on the list-it's not going to be easy. We actually just cut 30 people and are down to 190.

Re: what do u think of a small wedding rather than a big wedding...........

Oh wow! Everyone tells me 125 is small!!

We plan on having about 125. I'm excited. I think it's still going to have a really intimate feel.

Our rule of thumb is 'if we haven't spoken to you in over a year (with the exception of older relatives and other close family), you aren't making the cut'
