Re: What do you say when friends ask about prices?

I know! I hate when people ask me the prices! I hate to give all that info out because it really is none of their business.

Re: What do you say when friends ask about prices?

Thank you ladies for all your helpfull suggestions. I don't mind giving the information to anyone on LIW or any friends planning a wedding but in my case I just think that the people are being downright nosy. None of them are getting married and they really just want to get into how much FI and I are spending on the wedding. I think that I am going to go with some of the suggestions here that should work. Under $200 sounds like a very nice response.

Re: What do you say when friends ask about prices?

i agree with everything above. I will answer a LIW friend in a forum mail with detailed prices. My close friends are also planning weddings and I always share exact prices with them.

As for people who are 'just curious' i usually give them a HUGE prices range like 'btw $100 and $200 a plate' or 'udner $6000'

Re: What do you say when friends ask about prices?

I usually tell all my prices of things if people ask. It usually doesn't bother me. If you don't want to say anything just tell them that you forgot or your parents are paing for it and you don't remember.

i either say 'not comfortable talking about $$'

or if they are close friends...i give them a ballpark figure

what's sad is i think some ppl ask...so they can make sure they 'cover' their plate. my brother asked me this and actually SAID that was why he wanted to know.

i told him we're paying $500 per person. Bwuahahaah!

lmao thats too funny and yeah i know people that do that too, and that is sad.

Re: What do you say when friends ask about prices?

I usually dodge the question by saying something like ' A lot more than I thought it would be!' This usually goes into a discussion about how expensive weddings are/long island is...blah blah blah and the question is soon forgotten.

Re: What do you say when friends ask about prices?

I personally don't mind if someone asks me. Then again I work in finance and think it's super easy to find out prices if I really wanted to find out. This goes for anything, not just weddings.

Re: What do you say when friends ask about prices?

lol i dont know if this is rude, but i usually say 'It doesnt matter' and giggle a little to lighten the mood! or i'll say 'A lot more than I thought!' and then if they ask again i'll follow it up with 'It doesnt matter'...i still find it unbelievable that people come right out & ask.

I'm the same way. Most of my friends I think ask because we're the first to get married and they're curious about what a LI wedding costs. It doesn't bother me. I even answer salary questions honestly - as a lawyer in a firm, my salary gets published anyway. If people want to know, they can find out, so there's no point to dodging the question or getting bothered. JMHO.
