Oooh ok so than I might be able to just get away with it? For some reason I feel like if we did the Greek pre cana and the catholic church is recognizing our marriage anyway, would they recognize that we did pre cana through them as well?

how do you know that the catholic church is recognizing your marriage anyway? I think if you want that to be the case you DO have to do pre-cana.

I looked into it as far as determining whether or not I'd be able to baptize my kids catholic if I didn't have a church wedding.

I am actually marrying in the Greek Church but part of FH and my deal was that we would marry in the Greek Church and raise our children in the Catholic Church so I am not sure what would be recognized.

When we met with the priest he told us that they catholic church would recognize the marriage if we got married in the greek church but it wouldn't be the same the other way around. FH's uncle is also going to do a reading at our ceremony as well. I am assuming that is why we also have to do catholic pre cana i was just curious what would happen if we didn't because we aren't getting married in the catholic church.

Our Precana is in Mineola on May 17 (only 1 day) and it costs $75. I can get you more info if you'd like.

I am in a similar situation as you. I am Catholic and FH is Greek Orthodox. We are getting married in the Greek Church, but we still had to do pre-cana for both. Have you guys spoken to your FH's priest? Even though Catholics can get married in the Greek church, they still have to get 'permission'. If you want to have your marriage recognized by the catholic church, you have to go to one and fill out all the necessary paperwork and do pre-cana, as you did with the greek church. Then the priest will file everything with the Bishop and get a dispensation from the catholic church so that you guys can get married in the greek church and it still be recognized. Phewwww, I hope I made sense!

Yes def. made sense thank you....we did talk with the priest and we got the letter in the mail stating that FH is allowed to marry Mila (my name is Mia) Makros in the Greek church i assume that is our letter of dispensation, now we still have to do the pre cana? lol FH now calls me Mila

Well Mila , I think you're good then. Sounds like the catholic church IS recognizing your upcoming marriage so I don't think you have anything to worry about!

no pre cana my preist would say I am not marrying you. I noticed the weekend retreats are $300 but there are also daytime part ! & part 2 classes which qualify and are a lot cheaper. check out engagedencounter.org

I am Lutheran and i do not have to do precana.....but i heard of you dont do it your marriage wont be recognized by the catholic church.......I dont get why you have to do precana twice
