When Do I Order my dress?

OK- Now that I have actually set a date :)(1/13/01) when do I have to start looking for my dress? How long before the wedding do I need to order my dress and the bridesmaids dresses?

Be careful because some designers can take up to 10 months to get you the dress. In this case, depending upon the style and fabric of the dress you may want to start looking soon. Usually, 9 months is sufficient but my dress took 10 months from date of order to receive and then you have to figure fittings, etc. Of course, you can get a dress in less than six months but if you fall in love with something that takes longer, you may have to pay more to get it in time.

A good idea is to tell the bridal shop a date for the wedding that's a month or so BEFORE your ACTUAL date. That way, if something happens, it gives you a little more time to deal with the issue. Besides, what do they care???

Just be sure to look at the calendar to keep a fake date in mind...so you don't give them a date that turns out to be a Wednesday or something :-)

I did that - but only by 2 weeks. Here's the only catch (which isn't that big of a deal, depending on the shop)...

I don't want to bring it home 2 weeks early b/c I want it freshly pressed for the wedding day. The bridal store charges a storage fee per day for each day after the "wear date". At my place, its only $1/day - definitely worth the $14 for the piece of mind & the storage.....Again, it wasn't a big deal but something to be aware of!

My fiance is giving me a hard time about choosing to hyphenate my name with his and mine. He is very modern regarding most issues, but this one aggravates him. I am a teacher and have been known by my maiden name to both students and parents for four years...I do not want to give up my name because that is who I am...he seems to have a hard time getting this point. Regardless, I am choosing to hyphenate and suggested that he "deal with it".

Karen, where did you get your wedding dress from? I ordered mine from Macys in Lake Grove and they told me that it is a good idea to put a month earlier so I did it. I wonder if they are going to charge me too.

I have to agree with everyone else. I have 2 words to say "WEDDING MILL". There are so many weddings going on there at one time that they do not focus 110% of their attention to YOU. I know that they have seperate kitchens for all of their rooms, but the fact that there are many more weddings going on....YOU should be their focus. I am not saying that places where there are multiple weddings are bad, when you have 7 at one time, that's a lot!

I ordered it from a bridal shop in bayshore. If Macy's told you to put it a month earlier then I'd complain if they tried to charge you any holding fees.....

I know that they have seperate kitchens for all of their rooms, but the fact that there are many more weddings going on....YOU should be their focus. I am not saying that places where there are multiple weddings are bad, when you have 7 at one time, that's a lot!
