Re: Would you not pick a reception location because it is too far????

It was a huge factor for us. We had several people coming from Staten Island, Queens and the city. It addition to a few out of state guests. It is a huge hike to LI to begin with considering the traffic there is. We only looked at places close (within at most 30 minutes) from my Church. I didn't want people to have to drive alot especially not knowing exactly where they are going and considering alot of these people probably wouldn't stay over.

Re: Would you not pick a reception location because it is too far????

I wouldn't let that solely determine my decision. It's not too far. The place is beautiful, cocktail hour is quality, appetizers-dinner are fantastic. And if you decided to get an extra touch or two - Viennese Hour will keep a Kool Aid smile on the faces of your guests. I won't bash any other place but have been to a couple close to Giorgio's and a couple not as far out as Giorgio's and the food was very poor. How far is too far? It's not like they are fighting the Hampton's Traffic in January. I just drove to a friend's wedding in Virginia and I live in NYC - that could be considered too far. But the way I see it - if they don't come to a great wedding reception because it's 'too far' do you really care if they come anyway? This past weekend I had another wedding in CT which was 1.5 hours away from NYC. Rented a car and went. It's not the end of the world. Of course down the street via cab would have been better. But I think the excuse 'too far' is kind of lame most of the time and definitely if they live in Nassau or Suffolk. Take the LIE right there, not a big deal.

Re: Would you not pick a reception location because it is too far????

We live in Nassau; most of our friends & family live in Manhattan or in Nassau, but we had ours at Wolffer out in Sagaponack, which was an average of about 80 miles for our guests. I had only a handful of people not come & it was only because they had another wedding that day. We also had the ceremony and the reception at the vineyard, so people didn't have to go all over the place. We knew exactly where we wanted it from the start, and we figured, whoever doesn't make the drive, doesn't, and whoever does, DOES! :)

I actually did not pick a couple of locations because of the distance . . .but I think you really have to know your guests- they may be willing to go the distance. I knew for my guests it would be too much, especially on a Sunday night.
