So if my ring is not GIA, I should feel a bit disappointed? But the ring is beautiful! The diamond is amazing, even w/ the loop!

GIA and AGS are the most reputable certifications. i would ask why you were not shown the certfication upon viewing the stone. i don't think you should feel disappointed. if you love the stone and setting, that is all that really matters. i would suggest however, that you have the stone appraised by an independent party.

Re: Your Engagement Ring Diamond

Well, there is nothing wrong witha diamond that isn't certified. You could send it to be certified if you wanted to (if you ever want to sell it)
Uncertified diamonds are a LOT less expensive so the issue is that you want to be sure you were not ripped off. YOu can't just say a diamond is 1 carat, G in color with SI2 clarity and that it is worth x amount. There are lots of other factors (flourescence, cut and table if it is round) Those are usually the things the dealer gets people on - especially on uncertified diamonds (most don't know to ask about that stuff)

Get it appraised and see if you overpaid. Do it soon so you can take it up with the jeweler if there is a problem.

Re: Your Engagement Ring Diamond

Mine came with GIA.

If it's not certified just go ahead and get it appraised by an independent to make sure you got what you paid for.

If you are happy that's all that matters.

i would actually suggest getting it appraised prior to purchase the stone. any REPUTABLE jeweler would send the diamond out for and independent review prior to the customer paying in full.

if not, have them state (in writing) that if the appraisal deviates significantly from the in-house stats, the jeweler excepts responsibility and all monies rendered will be reinbursed.
