Engagment gift from the Mother of the Groom

So my brother just got engaged and my mother wants to know what the standard engagement gift every one thinks she should give.

Let me know what your MOG gave!!! Thanks!!!

Oh... they are not having a party but she still wants to give something...

TIA!

Re: Engagment gift from the Mother of the Groom

how about toasting flutes or cake server set for them to use at the wedding. or a picture frame for their wedding picture.

or if she wants to get just her something, a lenox or mikasa ring holder would be nice!

Re: Engagment gift from the Mother of the Groom

not sure how much she wants to spend- but my mil gave us a congratulations card and said that she would pay for our wedding video- if she doesnt want to spend that much other engagement gifts that I loved were- engaged christmas ornament with our names & the year, gift certificates for hotel overnights/dinner- during wedding planning these were especially a treat since we didnt have the money to do that stuff, and toasting flutes is a good idea but the couple may want to pick out their own- so maybe she can ask them to pick them and she will pay or something

Re: Engagment gift from the Mother of the Groom

Really? Ooops... I told her 250$ hahaha LOL...

Someone already gave toasting flutes... I was thinking monetary... I don't think she wants to give an actual gift...

Is 250 good? too much? too little?

Thanks!

Re: Engagment gift from the Mother of the Groom

I didn't get an engagement gift from my parents or DH's. Maybe that's because they both paid for the wedding? DH's parents paid for our band and the flowers, and my parents paid for everything else except my centerpieces, which I made myself and paid for ....

I honestly have never heard of parents of the couple giving engagement gifts! Even if the couple is paying for the wedding themselves!

My FILs gave us a statue of the Montauk Lighthouse

We got engaged there so I guess they were going for cute...but still.

My mother gave us a nice check and a gift certificate to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner.

Re: Engagment gift from the Mother of the Groom

How about a liberty travel gift card that could be used towards honeymoon. My future inlaws gave 350, to us for our e-party, that we hosted ourselfs. I hope this helps!

Re: Engagment gift from the Mother of the Groom

Thanks girls... She gave $500. I guess I was being cheap with the $250 ahhaha lol.

They are not having an Eparty but this was for their engagement, she is giving like 20,000 towards the wedding/gift and then the balance of the wedding is for them and the brides parents to figure out I guess.

Thanks a lot!

Re: Engagment gift from the Mother of the Groom

That's a very generous gift, they're very lucky! We got a Kitchen Aid stand mixer from FH's parents, and technically two cookie sheets and a measuring cup, although it was signed his sister, but it was his parent's funding lol.

Re: Engagment gift from the Mother of the Groom

she gave me heartburn, indigestion and diarrhea. HA HA JK. WE GOT SQUAT FROM HIS MOM (parents are divorced) but his dad paid for the engagement party which was really nice His mom showed up at the engagement party with nothing and she never once acknowledged our engagement. She is not a warm or fuzzy type person. OH WELL.
