Hotels for Lands End Wedding
Hello everyone--I apologize for the long post but if you decide to read, grab a drink or a cup of coffee and then pull up a chair. =)
I am posting under my fiancee's account since she is out this evening. We have been doing a lot of reading and would like to post more. Everyone has been SO HELPFUL. Anyone who would like to add their two cents--any and all comments would be appreciated.
We are having our reception at Lands End in Sayville (10/3/08) and one of the early things we would like to research and book is hotel accommodations for out of town guests and people who do not want to drive home that night.
For starters, most of the hotels are not very close to Lands end at all. None of the hotels we have looked into provide any shuttle service to Lands end which means I will have to make arrangments. My wallet is not happy.
Outside of that dilemma, let me just say that all the area hotels SUCK>>>>It pisses me off.
Lands end has some hotels listed on their website as recommended vendors. Anyway, here are my experiences and/or observations so far.
1. Lands End Motel
This property is across the street from the RH. It is 15 rooms. They seem to have renovated the grounds with new landscaping and walkways and stuff. We looked at the rooms. They were real nice and clean. Two problems came up:
First, every room only has one king bed>>***
What does a family of more than two do?
Secondly, the hotel offers no deals or discount even though we are having our reception at Lands End. And the price--laughable when you take into account what I just mentioned. Basically I told the person that other than the sheer convenience of being right near the RH, they offer me no incentive to give them any more of my business. They had nothing to say. I am not sure what the deal is there. Lands End owns the property but I am not sure who runs it. Possibly a Management company or something. Our RH coordinator did not handle the motel. We had to speak with someone who only deals with the rooms.
2. Holiday Inn, Vets Hwy, Ronkonkoma (near the airport)
This hotel got some poor reviews on tripadvisor.com. Seems like a craphole to me. I have never been fond of Holiday Inns. They always seem dirty to me and I have never really had a great experience with them. They had some bridal showcase thing tonight. Thats where the future wife went with a friend. She told me it ******. They got there at like 730-8pm. It was from 630pm-930pm. Vendors were packing up...barely anyone there. Waste of time basically.
3. Hyatt Windwatch, Motor pkwy, Hauppauge
This hotel is off the beaten path. It is north of the LIE. It appears to be a really nice fancy pants type hotel. We went in and walked around one sunday afternoon. We decided to take an elevator to a random floor to take a peak at the rooms. Elevator doors open and we are hit with a smell of smoke so stagnant and strong, even a smoker would run for the hills. Another craphole. Just totally turned us off.
4. Courtyard marriott--LIE service road, exit 60
Seems like a standard hotel. Nothing more nothing less. Lady I corresponded with back and forth over email was real nice. We stopped in and the hotel was just a basic place. THey say its convenient to Lands end. Its inconvenient IMO. Too far north like all the rest. Not a quick drive.
Hotels not listed by lands end but also options we considered:
5. Marriott, Islandia, north service road LIE
Seems to cater to corporate types. Right near computer associates. They were not overly friendly. We filled out some papers. Never heard anything--and I didnt care.
6. Hilton Garden inn, Islip, Vets hwy near Macarthur.
This was one of the nicer properties we looked at. Rooms were standard. Nothing jumped out at us though. The woman was supposed to mail us a contract with estimated prices for blocks of rooms. That was 3 months ago. We are still waiting. My future wife was not crazy about this place.
I am aware of a Hampton Inn at the corner of Vets Hwy and the LIE service toad too. Prob the same as the courtyard marriott--appears to be a standard hotel although I didnt go there yet.
So...
As you can see, we are sort of in a bind. None of these places seem great and certainly dont seem to care about getting the business. Any and all comments and suggestions would be appreciated. There just does not seem to be any great options I have found in my search of the area. I feel like I am going to have to settle. Thanks in advance for reading and any suggestions you have.

Re: Hotels for Lands End Wedding
I know it sounds far fetched but I would say go for the Marriot because the price alone is awesome and spring for a shuttle for your guests. I'm getting married at Flowerfield next year and that's what we're doing. We have to otherwise we're going to have a lot of angry drunk drivers out there...not good! Courtyard Marriot seemed pretty standard....ask for Gina...she quoted me $99....good luck...they also have a 'bridal suite'...not that i think its going to be like Oheka or the garden city hotel or anything but hey- its a marriot- how bad could it be?! HTH!!

Re: Hotels for Lands End Wedding
There is a new La Quinta on Johnson Ave. in Sayville (near the Islip Airport) It is probably one of the closest hotels...other than the Lands End Hotel.

hi, joe.....
we are getting married at land's end too, and i think it's great that there is a hotel right there....i'm surprised they gave you that info...we haven't checked out the rooms yet... but i contacted via email asking about pricing. this was their response (which i received within a day):
Hi Lauren & Rob,
Thank you for your inquiry, 14 of the 15 rooms at the motel are $140 per night, the 15th room is what we refer to as the bridal suite, and it is $165 per night. We do have different discounts available to Land’s End brides depending on how many rooms your guests book with us. Should you have any other questions please call the motel office at 631.589.2040.

Re: Hotels for Lands End Wedding
I am in sort of the same boat, trying to figure out where to block off rooms for my wedding at the Bourne Mansion in Oakdale. I have not contacted any of the 'area' hotels yet, but I am leaning towards the Wind Watch, as it does appear to be the nicest hotel in the area.I was told by my sales consultant at my RH that there is a new Holiday Inn in Hauppague that provides shuttle service for guests. For a Holiday Inn, I heard the property itself is not too bad.

Hey LP--
I agree with you that its great that a hotel/motel is right there. The place was real nice inside dont get me wrong. Room size was more than adequate. I didnt inquire about a cot or anything. Definitely could fit one in the room, maybe even two but I am not sure if they have them to provide or if they even allow like an aerobed or anything like that. We met with a woman at the Lands End property. I don't remember her name. She showed us the rooms and went over some basic stuff. The price we were quoted was similar to yours--I think it may have been the same. For some reason, 152 sticks in my head with taxes and such. As for the bridal suite, its down on the end with an outdoor patio type area....down near the marina, there is a walkway that goes right past it to the back where one fo their vendor offices is. Inside it also had a plasma tv or flat screen on the wall. Regular rooms had regular flat screens. We were told that the bridal suite was given to the bride and groom free of charge if all the rooms on the property were booked. We had told them we were thinking of maybe booking 10-15 rooms. Maybe thats why we were told about the freebie. Maybe thats the discount the letter you got was referring to. She never told us a price for the bridal suite though. Hope this helps. If I hear anything else when we start looking again, I will let ya know. Drop us a line if u guys hear anything.

Re: Hotels for Lands End Wedding
i dunno how close this hotel is to lands end... but you listed other hotels in hauppauge...we blocked rooms at the holiday inn express in hauppauge..right off the LIE. i know you hate holiday inns but this one is surprisginly nice. the insde is clean and nice...the rooms r great...every room has a fridge & coffeemaker.the outside is not the most attractive...but the inside makes up for it.
hotel also provides a free shuttle to the watermill (where our wedding is)...not sure if they would provide one for you for lands end?
they have a small lobby & an area for breakfast the next morning (which is included in rate)
rate is usually $149/nite.. our group rate is $129/nite.
not sure if you are planning on partying all night long but they dont have a bar...so what we did was rent out a conference room in the basement of the hotel...for $200 we get it from 12:30-4:30am.
i dealt with kerri d'arpa. her # is 631-348-1400.
hope you find the hotel you are looking for. good luck!

Re: Hotels for Lands End Wedding
Jenn Barnett, our BM at Land's End, told us that the Holiday Inn provides free shuttle service to LE. Also, I contacted the LI chamber of commere and they put my wedding info out there to all the hotels and I got quotes back from literally everyone ever it seems. The Hampton Inn also offered free shuttle service if 10 rooms were booked by our guests - otherwise it would be $50 each way.Let me post some prices that I got (btw, my request was for a block of 10 rooms)...
Sheraton Smithtown - $129/night
Hampton Inn - $119/night
Hyatt Wind Watch - $140/night (all rooms w/2 beds)
Courtyard Marriott - $129/night
Holiday Inn - $129/night
Wingate Commack - $125/night

I am from Sayville, and I probably wouldn't reccomend the Land's End Motel.. Out of those listed, I would say to consider either the Hilton Graden Inn or Courtyard Marriott. HTH!

Re: Hotels for Lands End Wedding
soooooo.i finally got to go see the Land's End hotel last night.
it's great. Nice, clean rooms....they appear to be recently redone.....
i got all psyched about all of us stumbling over there after the reception.....
MOH called this am to block it out, and the bride from the next day already has my night booked.
So, if you ARE the bride getting married on June 7, 08 at Land's End who has the hotel booked for the 6th and 7th, PLEASE reconsider and let me have the 6th.
please.
i have nothing to bribe you with at this time, but perhaps we can work something out????
