How to get those big curls in your hair?
I am having my RD tomorrow night, and I want to do my own hair. I am deff on a budget at this point and I can't afford to go to anyone. I was going to go pick up some of those huge rollers and put them in my hair. B/c I want my hair to look full and have those soft curls/waves in it.Almost like this:

I like how it goes into a soft curl, not so tight. can I do that with the big barrell curlers? And how do I do it exactly?
Damp hair, roll it up, spray some hair spray, blow dry and let down???? I just want to comb through it with my fingers and let that be it. TYIA

most people i know who do their hair like that use hot rollers. If not do you have a big curling iron for big curls?

Re: How to get those big curls in your hair?
I would use a big curling iron (just bc it is quicker). Once you curl your hair, open up the individual curls so that they can be as flowy as you want them to.

I do, but my hair never holds a curl b/c it's so thin and so straight. I figured if I let it sit in the rollers, it would be better no?

Re: How to get those big curls in your hair?
you can buy the really big pink spongy rollers...what i do is dry my hair about 50% (so its not super wet...) apply a curling spray and then roll it in those and they i blow dry for about 15 minutes or so in the rollers... take them out and ...poof curls !!
my sister has also slept in the rollers overnight and gotten stronger curls that way !!

Re: How to get those big curls in your hair?
I have the Japanese straightening in my hair but I always put curls in it. I use a big curling iron (not to big, like 1 and 1/2 inch). Once your hair is blown out. Take a piece of hair and hairspray- then comb through the hairspray and then curl. let sit for 5 minutes before you run your hand through the curls. Another good tip my hair dresser gave me was to do each curl in the opposite direction- this gives it a more natural, flowly look.Any curling iron from a drugstore would work. i think i have a CVS brand one. I do want to look into hot rollers too. My hairdresser said conair work good and not to buy the ones with the velcro because they make your hair frizzy.

I'd recommend doing this tonight for a test run. I have the same kinda hair and even with hairspray my curls fall out...last thing you will want is limp hair at the RD so give it a test run tonight!

Re: How to get those big curls in your hair?
My wedding hair looked similiar to that..You can either use hot rollers or a large curling iron (the bigger the iron the looser the curls will be) and then after you curl the hair, pull it out with your fingers..that will give you soft waves

Re: How to get those big curls in your hair?
i do my hair with those big curls most nights when i go out. Its quite easy if you can get Hot Curlers. Any Hot Curlers will work. Blow dry your hair straight and dont use a straightening iron. The more volume the better
Then put big rollers in when hot and leave til the rollers are cool to touch. Take them out, flip your hair a few times, and spray with extra strength hair spray.
good luck!

I do my hair like that a lot.. but I use a curling iron. I start near the root and curl each part of the group of hair...then slowly work the curling iron downwards towards the end. Most people use curling irons from the end of the hair towards the root... but that usually gives more of a shirley temple look. put your hair around the curling iron once around and wait a little bit (20 secs maybe depending on the thickness of your hair) then do the next part.... each new part is touching the curling iron. Also to make your hair have that flowing look... like in the second pic.. be careful with the direction of the curling iron. When doing the sides of your hair... have the open side towards the front so that it curls away from your root/face. I don't usually spray it with anything until I am finished or the curls can be too hard from the spray. A video would work wonderfull right about now. Let me know if I'm not explaining it right or if you have any other questions.
I might have some pics in my profile of it... there aren't too many but maybe like 3 or 4.

Re: How to get those big curls in your hair?
def a inch and a half wide curling iron will do the trick and don't bring the iron all the way to the top of your head, stop by your ear lobe.

I usually start a little higher... only because the curls tend to fall a little especially as the night goes on.. so the more curl you get in there... after an hour it should set to the exact look you want. It depends on how heavy your hair is though. If your hair isn't that heavy or tends to stay then start at the earlobe like NovBride says to do. I don't start at the root itself... maybe like an inch or two from the root and it usually lasts. You should try it for a day and see how it holds up.
