STD's - Glossy or Matte?

I'm about to order my postcard STD's but realized that there's the option for glossy finish or matte finish.

The front has a smallish picture of us and the words 'Save the Date', our names, date, and Invitation to Follow - with a brown background.

The back has our monogram on the left and a space on the right to write in addresses.

Should I go glossy? Or matte?

Re: STD's - Glossy or Matte?

Hmmm, something else I just thought about - if they're glossy, can you still write the addresses on them? Will it smudge?

What addresses? do you mean the outgoing address because you don't put that on the std

Re: STD's - Glossy or Matte?

they're both nice.
maybe matt since they won't be smudge or won't have any fingerprints on them.

my std were matte, and i always do my pix that way, it seems to be the only choice . . . i only see 'matte' for mail order only

its personal preference. im sure they'll look gorgeous either way!

I'm doing a postcard so on the backside I have to write the outgoing addresses. No envelope, just a postcard.

Re: STD's - Glossy or Matte?

When doing postcards prof. at the print shop i work at we typically do one sided glossy and the other flat this way its easier to address. Coatings are VERY hard to write on (this depends on the coating) I do have to admit on a postcard the coatings (typically UV) protect the artwork during the mailing process.

If its a choice see if you can do one sided gloss. Email the vendor and ask them what do they recommend and tell them your situation. I mean they could be just using a coated paper which is okay to write on (not the best) but if they are deff. using aqeous or uv coat then DO NOT get it on the side you are writing on.

Yeah that is also why I got my x-mas cards glossy because it stays in better condition...With matte it can rip easily especially since they are post cards

Ok, thanks for this info! This is what the website says:

'• Free Coating Options
Free Glossy U/V Coating
or Satin Matte Finish'

I guess I'll email them to ask if they can do one side u/v and one side matte. If they can't, then I'll just do the matte on both since their glossy is U/V.

For a postcard though i think they would do matte on one side and glossy on the other, thats how all postcards are anyways if you think about it.

Re: STD's - Glossy or Matte?

I just thought of something - how about glossy (if they can only do it on both sides) but use clear labels for the addresses in a nice font. Personally I wouldn't use labels for our wedding invites, but is it ok for the STD's?

Yeah you can do that, but first find out how they make the post cards, i dont think they would make the back glossy bc they know you have to write addresses on them, plus like i said before all postcards are matte one side and glossy the other

I emailed them about that because you make a lot of sense! It sounds right, but I'm waiting to hear back from them. Thanks!
